As entrusted ‘guardian,’ Boy Abunda vows to take care, manage Bimby Aquino
It remains to be seen whether or not Bimby Aquino will pursue a career in show biz. But should that happen, Boy Abunda said he will do his best to guide and watch over the kid, not only as a manager but also as a guardian.
“I will have that conversation with Bimby in the coming days. I will ask him. I don’t know what he wants to do yet but I will take care of him, guide him,” Boy told the Inquirer and select reporters at a media event for his new endorsement, The Kitchen Magic spaghetti sauce.
Bimby had been staying in the United States for the past few years, taking care of his ailing mother, Kris Aquino, who’s currently seeking treatment for a slew of autoimmune disorders. Now, he’s back in the Philippines to continue his studies.
Close relationship
“Even if he doesn’t ask, I will be his manager,” the veteran television host said, adding that school will still be Bimby’s top priority. “There are things you don’t rush into, things you have to study. We will listen to what he wants.”
His role in Bimby’s life isn’t something Boy assumed. It was the 17-year-old’s mother who personally entrusted her children—including her elder son, Josh—to Boy.
“I’m his guardian. At expressed ’yun. It was not an assumed position. Kris and Bimb know that. And even if Kris didn’t ask me to be Bimb’s guardian, I will insist. Because that boy grew up before me,” stressed Boy, who surmised that acting as Bimby’s manager wouldn’t be an easy task.
“It’s very tough when you have that close of a relationship,” he said.
Bimby is actually no stranger to acting. As a child, he did commercials, made guest appearances in different sitcoms and television shows and starred in the films “My Little Bossings” (2013), “The Amazing Praybeyt Benjamin” (2014) and “All You Need is Pag-ibig” (2015).
Analytical mind
Bimby’s recent vlog appearances and interviews have been positively received on the internet. A common sentiment among social media users was that Kris’ son with basketball player James Yap has grown up to be a smart and eloquent young man.
“I’m so proud of the boy. He’s so bright. He’s a smart, handsome and very kind child. He has an analytical mind,” he said. “He knows what he’s doing.”
In fact, in Boy’s recent visit to Kris’ home in California, he said he couldn’t help but be impressed at how Bimby practically ran their household. “He’s brilliant. He knows and takes care of his mom’s medication. He has been running the house [since he was] 15, 16,” Boy related. “So different from what we used to see.”
