Before her Miss World 2025 bid, Krishnah Gravidez takes stab at music

As a young girl, Miss World Philippines 2024 Krishnah Gravidez used to imagine herself performing before a large crowd.

But because her family lacked the resources while growing up in Ilocos Sur, she was resigned to the idea that her childhood dream would remain just that.

Things changed after she began competing in national beauty pageants.

“We had limited opportunities in the province so I felt it was impossible for me. But here in Manila, there are more, especially after I was crowned. That’s how I realized that I can actually pursue music,” Krishnah told the Inquirer at her recent contract signing with Universal Records.

When she was 12, Krishnah learned to play the guitar, thanks to her father. And seeing her grandmother sing at church eventually inspired her to follow suit. “I used to sing in the bathroom,” she said, laughing.

“It was only in the Miss World Philippines’ talent competition that I finally experienced singing in front of a large crowd. People told me I have potential … I asked myself if this is something I want to do. And I figured out that life is too short to stick to one field,” she said.

‘A lot of opportunities’

The 23-year-old beauty queen knows that her singing talent is still “raw,” but she’s willing to put in the work and explore different genres. Right now, Krishnah is partial to pop and bossa nova.

“I plan to devote my efforts to this endeavor. I’m looking forward to taking up voice and dance lessons soon. I’m embracing this. I’m excited about what the future holds,” said Krishnah, who finished in the Top 5 of the 2023 Miss Universe Philippines pageant.

Given the chance, she said she would love to work with singer-songwriters Moira dela Torre and Dionela. And if she were to write her first composition, it would be inspired by her life in the province. “I have been independent since I was 16. It hasn’t been an easy journey for me, so I will probably write about that,” she said.

How will she juggle this new career move on top of her preparations for the Miss World 2025 pageant in February next year?

“Time management. But I also want to challenge myself more. There have been a lot of opportunities coming my way and I feel blessed to have these. Not all aspiring artists get these types of opportunities,” Krishnah pointed out, adding that she has also been working on strengthening her advocacy, which is a focal component in the upcoming competition.

“I believe I have enough time to prepare for the competition. I’m grateful to have a strong support system.I trust the people with me on this journey. I’m working hard on my advocacies like supporting the youth, and animal welfare,” she added. “I want to highlight these causes and show my sincerity and genuineness.”
