Cesar Montano’s new ‘obra maestra’; Vandolph’s love child
My BFF Buboy (Cesar Montano) is super proud of his latest movie, “Blood Brothers” (BB). Aside from being the lead star, he also directed the film now showing at SM Cinemas nationwide.
“Blood Brothers” is based on the book by Ronald Adamat, who’s also part of the cast. Buboy’s other costars include Alan Paule, Victor Neri and Epy Quizon. BB looks beyond the surface to make us understand the plight of indigenous people. It tells the story behind the story of our marginalized kababayan.
At the premiere of BB, I got to chat with a charming Aeta, Mylene Pan. She told me that Apl.de.Ap grew up in the same place where she did, Sapang Bato. The famous rapper even paid tribute to his hometown by including it in the lyrics of his song, “Bebot.”
To this day, Apl has not lost sight of his roots. Last December, he held a fund-raising concert gratis et amore in Sapang Bato to help the town’s various projects. He also put up a music studio in town where indigenous people can hone their skills.
It’s amazing that even if Apl is world-renowned, his hometown remains as the apple of his eye. He serves as an inspiration to his town mates to chase their dreams. That’s why there is an Aeta theater group to them tap into their “inner Apl.de.Ap.” If he was able to make it big, so can they.
All is well between Vandolph and daughter Gabie
Many controversies ago, I wrote a scoop about Vandolph Quizon’s love child with Gia Avante, Gabie. I am one of her godmothers.
Back then, the situation was kind of rough, so Vandolph was a no-show at Gabie’s baptism. I remember Tito Dolphy (Vandolph’s dad) approaching me at a party. He told me that he read my column about his son’s love child, so he asked Vandolph to settle things with Gia for Gabie’s sake.
Fast-forward to today: All is well between father and daughter. Gabie is already 23. She graduated cum laude in BS Biology at De La Salle University and is now in med school at UERM.
“Dad has been so supportive. He’s been paying for half of my tuition ever since,” Gabie said. “We talk often and we bond during special occasions.”
For sure, Tito Dolphy is smiling from up above as he watches Vandolph become the kind of Dad that he was to him.
