Dimples Romana on aging, her evolving fashion sense
Aging is a “fantastic thing,” according to Dimples Romana, who will turn 40 this year.
“It means you’re given the opportunity to still be here and have a say on things. Aging for me means that you get to learn and experience life more,” the actress told Inquirer Entertainment in a recent interview. “My wish is to continue to live a life that’s free of judgment, expectations and assumptions. I feel that these are things that chain us down.”Dimples has been married to businessman Boyet Ahmee since 2004, and they have three kids, Callie, Alonzo and Elio.
“I’ve seen a lot of people become rich and powerful, but are very unhappy. I’m thankful that my friends have remained grounded. We still see each other. We’re happy with each other’s accomplishments. Not a lot of people are kind in this industry. People can be consumed by fame, popularity, power and money. I don’t want my kids to grow up in this kind of household,” said the host of the morning show “Gud Morning Kapatid” on TV5.
‘Priceless’
Apart from her endorsements and other businesses, Dimples has also released her own skincare line and an apparel line collab. “I’ve reached a point in my life when I treat my time with the same value as I treat my money. I feel time is also a currency. In all of the businesses I’ve ventured into, I make sure that it will not only be valuable to me in terms of money, but also in terms of relationships. That is priceless,” said Dimples when asked for pointers on how to become a successful entrepreneur.
She then recalled the time when, as a teenager, she would assist her mother in her budding buy-and-sell business. “I’m used to carrying all sorts of stuff for her. I remember when we would buy in Divisoria. I would look like a Christmas tree with all the goods hanging from my body. That’s why I can relate to moms who are very entrepreneurial. I also want to help moms with the same mindset,” she recalled. In terms of fashion, Dimples said she chooses her outfits based on emotions. “When I’m unhappy, that’s when you see me wearing very loud colors. If I’m sad, my clothes look a lot happier. I’m wearing white during this interview and this means I’m very happy,” she explained. “Whenever I feel I need comfort, I wear thicker clothes, like sweats and shawls. I realized that my style is not based on what is current, but on how I feel.”
Power dressing Dimple’s fashion sense is also based on the character she portrays at the moment. “Why don’t I have a specific style other than white shirt and jeans? I’ve been working as a teleserye actress since I was 12. My style evolved depending on my character,” she explained. “Daniela Mondragon is into power dressing. At the time I was doing ‘Kadenang Ginto,’ I would buy dresses, suits and slacks and items I could also wear on the teleserye.”Selene Larisa, Dimples’ character in “The Iron Heart,” was into blazers and lounge wear, and the color green. “For my babaylan character in ‘Bagani,’ I would wear a basic T-shirt and jeans since she wore ethnic clothing, but I remember liking the fake tattoos,” she added.“I also realized that I’m like a chameleon. While it’s OK to have a personal style and be known for it, it’s also not bad if you change your mind. Today, I will be plain. Tomorrow, I will be fun. At the end of the day, it’s still your personal preference,” Dimples declared. INQ
