Fans laud Olivia Rodrigo’s affordable, advocacy-driven PH concert

To ensure that pop star Olivia Rodrigo’s first concert in the Philippines is affordable and accessible to as many Filipino fans as possible, a lottery-style system that sets all tickets at a uniform price was put in place.

Through what’s called the “Silver Star Show” program, all tickets to the much anticipated local stop of the “Guts” world tour on Oct. 5 at the Philippine Arena are set at only P1,500, according to an announcement by promoter Live Nation Philippines.

“Manila! I’m so excited to visit the Philippines for the first time for a very special Silver Star Show,” said Olivia, the mind and voice behind the hits “Drivers License,” “Deja Vu,” “Good 4 U” and “Vampire.”

While the 21-year-old artist was born and raised in the United States, she is acknowledges her Filipino heritage from her father’s side, and described herself as a Filipina and an American in a vignette for Disney channel a couple of years back.

As such, the concert is being treated by some fans as a welcome party of sorts for the three-time Grammy-winning artist.

“Olivia really said let’s make this presyong kababayan!” Twitter user @crazylittleliv wrote.

Career-biggest

Should she sell out the Philippine Arena (55,000 maximum seating capacity), it will be the singer-songwriter’s biggest solo concert in terms of crowd—not only of the “Guts” tour—but of her career so far.

Online selling starts on Sept. 14, starting 10 a.m, on www.smtickets.com.

Each buyer can secure up to four adjacent seats or spots. The section or location of said tickets—whether standing or seated, floor or lower/upper levels—will be assigned at random and will be revealed only upon claiming of tickets on Sept. 28 at any SM Ticket outlet.

There will also be over-the-counter ticket-selling on Sept. 29 starting 12 p.m.

Charity

The Philippine stop also doubles as a fundraiser. All proceeds from the ticket sales will go to Olivia’s charity organization, “Fund 4 Good.”

Launched in October 2023, the global initiative aims to build “an equitable and just future for all women and girls through direct support of community-based nonprofits that champion girls’ education, support reproductive rights and prevent gender-based violence.”

News of the concert’s philanthropic goals and affordable, more democratized ticketing system earned praise from fans, or “Livies” as they’re fondly called.

“Olivia Rodrigo is having the largest crowd of her tour in her home country at the world’s largest indoor arena, and all of the proceeds are going to charity. This is insane. No one is doing it like her. I’m so so proud,” Twitter user @punisherguts wrote.

The “Guts” tour kicked off in February 2024 in support of Olivia’s sophomore album of the same title, which spawned the No. 1 song “Vampire.” The record solidified her star status, following the commercial success, critical acclaim and cultural impact of her debut album, “Sour.”
