Felip’s ‘genre-bending’ debut solo album explores ‘human shortcomings’

Avatar

In his debut solo album, “7sins,” singer-songwriter Felip lays out nine tracks that delve into “human shortcomings” and eventual “redemption.”

While not particularly “religion-centric,” the tracks are inspired and named after the seven deadly sins: “Envy,” “Wrath,” “Greed,” “Pride,” “Gluttony,” “Lust” and “Sloth.” Also on the track list are the songs “Foes,” which kicks off the album, and “Ache,” which brings it to a cathartic close.

Described as a “genre-bending album” that captures Felip’s “different sides and stories,” “7sins” (Warner Music Philippines) weaves a narrative that hopes to bring listeners to a journey of “honesty and acceptance,” of “feelings left unsaid,” of “redemption and embracing one’s true self.”

The album was seven months in the making. And despite his busy schedule with the P-pop boy band SB19, Felip couldn’t be more hands-on with the creative process, from writing to recording to mixing. The 27-year-old also collaborated with Luke April of PLAYERTWO, Isagani Palabyab and Cyra Gwynth.

“Been in the studio like it was home in the past months while making time for everything that needs to be done. ‘7sins,’ finally comin’ out and I’m excited for what’s to come,” Felip, who goes by the stage name Ken as part of SB19, wrote in a recent post on Instagram. “Promise you that I’ll keep creating—till we collapse.”
