Kakai sings about self-worth in ‘Karapat-Dapat’
Comedienne Kakai Bautista sends an empowering message in her new single “Karapat-Dapat,” a pop track that speaks about valuing one’s worth despite judgment and criticism.
“It will remind you that your past will only beautifully define you if you learn from it and use your strength to remind yourself that you’re more than enough,” Kakai said.
Trisha Denise composed the song that was produced by StarPop label head Roque “Rox” Santos. Kakai also took inspiration from her personal experience with bullying and hopes to help listeners find confidence to bounce back from their struggles in life through her latest song.
“I was bullied during my childhood days so this is a huge part of my life and growth as an artist. I want to impart lessons I learned from this experience and the strength that we can get from the painful things we go through in life,” Kakai shared. The singer-actress started her career in theater, where she became well-known for her performance in the play “Alikabok.” She further explored acting through her roles in blockbuster films such as “Crazy Beautiful You,” “Suddenly It’s Magic” and “Hello, Love, Goodbye.” She also starred in various series such as “Kay Tagal Kitang Hinintay,” “Kokey” and “Can’t Buy Me Love.”
As a singer, she debuted with her rendition of “Bakit Nga Ba Mahal Kita” in 2016 which earned more than 5 million streams on Spotify. She also released several singles such as “Pag-ibig Ko’y Panalo,” “Huwag Ka Nang Bumalik” and “Tingnan Mo Naman Ako.”
