Model gives back by helping out

Raoul Chee Kee

With cheekbones that can cut glass and a lithe and lanky frame, Ria Bolivar is a model’s model. She’s a favorite of the local designers because she can make anything look good.

Although she could have chosen to remain a top model where she continues to be in high demand, she decided to parlay that fame to help aspiring models who want to break into the industry.

Last year, she took a couple of models from Iloilo City, her hometown, under her wing.

“I’ve actually held a number of modeling workshops in Manila, Iloilo and Cagayan de Oro,” Ria told Inquirer Entertainment. “I decided to start my own agency so I can help these young models by teaching them how to walk and present themselves when meeting prospective clients.

Accordingly

She knows how dire the situation can get when a model is just starting out. Some brands and designers treat models poorly.

“These brands earn because the models present their clothes in a nice way. Since that’s the case, the models should also be paid accordingly. I want to help them get a fair wage,” Ria said.

So far, she has added three female models to her roster. She is also planning to hold a modeling workshop in Manila soon.

“A photographer wants to do a shoot with me. Instead of me getting paid for the job, we made an exchange deal where he will also shoot my models for their set cards,” Ria said.

For this long-limbed mannequin and mother of two, it’s time to pay it forward.
