‘Welcome Back’: 2NE1 to return to Manila for long-awaited concert

After 10 years, CL, Sandara Park, Minzy and Park Bom of the recently reunited 2NE1 are set to return to the Philippines as part of their “Welcome Back” Asia tour.

Presented by Live Nation Philippines, the show will be held in Manila on Nov. 16. Venue and ticketing information are expected to be announced later this month.

The beloved second-generation K-pop group, which disbanded in 2016, had previously performed in the country in 2014 and 2011.

In an announcement last July, YG Entertainment founder Yang Hyun-suk revealed that the entertainment company’s first successful pop girl group will mark its 15th anniversary with a series of shows, which kicks off in Seoul in October.

The revelation had the quartet’s devoted fans—fondly called “Blackjacks”—clamoring for a Manila stop. Of course, Dara, who grew up and started her show biz career in the Philippines, echoed their sentiments.

“We’re starting a tour in October in Seoul. I hope more countries get added. There has to be a Manila stop, right? ‘Di pwede na walang Manila sa 2NE1 tour,” Dara was quoted as saying last August at an endorsement event where she performed.

For the singer-actress, the band reuniting after eight years was a dream come true.

“I don’t know if all of you are already aware, but there has been some good news … I’m really thankful and blessed that one of my greatest wishes came true … 2NE1 is back” said Dara, who teased the crowd that her performance could serve as a warm-up of sorts.

Formed in 2009, 2NE1 rose to prominence on the world stage with hits like “Fire,” “I Don’t Care,” “Go Away,” “I Am the Best” and a slew of other bangers.

With its electrifying stage presence, edgy visuals and hard-hitting sound that fused pop, hip-hop and electronic beats, 2NE1 carved a distinctive image that helped set itself apart from other girl groups of its era.
