A Christmas song to play even beyond ‘ber’ months

Geneva Cruz is so passionate about Christmas that she often finds herself reaching for her favorite holiday films or listening to Yuletide carols whenever she’s feeling down, whatever time of the year it may be.

And the singer-actress could only hope her latest release, “When Christmas Comes,” becomes a similar source of comfort for other people in the years to come.

“That’s just the kind of person I am. The holiday season is important to me because it brings joy to my heart,” Cruz, an alumna of the former musical group Smokey Mountain, told Lifestyle.

The self-penned song is positive and upbeat—something “that will bring joy to people’s hearts.” She saw to it that it revolves around themes of love and hope, making it still quite relatable even beyond “ber” months.

“It’s about how you can still miss someone even if you’re in a room together. It’s about people going through something difficult … and focusing on self-growth,” she said.

Cruz has nothing but wonderful memories of Christmas as a young girl. “My mom cooked the most delicious food and took us shopping for new dresses and shoes, which I used to keep beside me while I slept!” she recalled.

Christmases are quieter these days. And this last one Cruz simply spent at home with her daughter, London, and her family. “I have always believed that Christmas Day and Christmas Eve, most especially, should be intimate. I prefer to spend it only with loved ones and close friends,” she said.

Her wish for the coming year sounds simple enough, but not quite: “a safer Philippines.” “When you’re a mom, you think about your children and family. And we just want a peaceful, better world,” she said.
