Celebrating Australia Day
Australia Ambassador HK Yu and spouse Fergus Murphy were excellent hosts to Manila’s government, business and social leaders as well as the diplomatic corps as they celebrated Australia Day at the reopened Makati Shangri-La. Yu, in her remarks, reflected on an exciting 2023 capped by the signing of the strategic partnership by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Australia Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. “We have never been closer, as partners and as friends,” said Yu.
Many important Australian businesses were also represented that evening, highlighting the very active economic and investment opportunities between the Philippines and Australia.The Ambassador also thanked the Australian and Philippine business leaders who came to support the Embassy: “Our corporate partners are key players in advancing our two-way trade and investment relationship, through the world class expertise they bring to the Philippines.”
Australia’s national day is well known for showcasing the best Australian products with a curated Australian menu. Guests feasted on Australian beef and lamb dishes.
As part of the celebration, Philippine importers took part in A Taste of Australia showcase, giving the guests a sample of the best Australian wine, cheese, gelato and beverages, which are all available in the Philippines. —BY FORTUNE LEDESMA
