Some bright spots that have contributed to its financial vitality are a resurgent tourism industry and one of the world’s largest merchant marine fleets. He attributed part of the success in the maritime sector to the large contingent of Philippine officers and seafarers manning Greek ships.

Pediotis also pointed out other commonalities between Greece and the Philippines, such as the commitment to international law, the respect for democracy and the rule of law and concern for the protection of the environment. He shared his hope that the two countries would seek more ways to deepen their already strong bilateral relations. —Contributed INQ
