Easy-to-manage, wearable ’dos for 2025
Hair has always been a quick and easy way to change things up, including one’s mood and outlook. And for those wanting to do the whole “New Year, New Me” shebang, a bit of mane modification might be the way to go.
“A haircut can change a person’s persona,” Lourd Ramos, celebrity hairstylist and CEO of Creations Salon, told Lifestyle. “It can deliver a strong attitude or a strong impression. It can change a person right away.”
As another year starts, Ramos takes his cue from fashion runways and the Pantone color of the year, Mocha Mousse, creating three trends that are set to define the looks of 2025.
“La Vida Mocha refers to classical cuts that have either deep intense dark mocha (almost black) or intense highlights and lowlights and full-on layers for both men and women; Mochalicious is very rich, subtle, very demure and mindful; and MochaLoca is all about the craziness and wildfire,” he shared.
“American caricature is coming back, as well as Japanese and Korean influences,” he added. Calling the burgeoning trend “imperfectly perfect,” the hairdos of the moment look flawless in their flaws: tasseled fringes, wispy haircut, messy buns, lion hair, sports car hair, square layers, ultra layers, and spikes.
Minimal syling
“You have the ‘Do Not’ look, which is like, ‘Do not look at my hair!’” he said, laughing, referring to messy buns seen on the runway. “It’s like that but when you look at it, the color is just beautiful: ultra-rich brown, ultra-rich dark chocolate, ultra-rich mocha color.”
While many of the styles go wild with self-expression, some of the ‘dos actually allow for minimal styling, with just a dramatic swish or swoop to give it that extra oomph.
Ramos said 2025 calls for more moderate hairstyles and color compared to the previous year, which was “all about ultra-blonde, platinum, ice-blonde, iced tea, latte.
“This year, it’s a little conservative, but it’s very opposite. It’s light-light or it’s dark-dark; there’s no in-between,” Ramos said. The new trending hairstyles play with long hair—for both men and women—and rich but more natural tones that are more wearable and easy to maintain.
“Since the hair color is very natural, it’s not obvious when there’s regrowth. It’s very easy to maintain,” he said, explaining that clients would only need to revisit the salon for a recut of the color after nine to 12 weeks.
