February movies to watch with your Valentine

Carl Martin Agustin

Running out of cheesy rom-coms for your Valentine’s movie date? Fear not, these upcoming February movies have you covered, from Steve Harrington’s post-“Stranger Things” life to the highly awaited “Wuthering Heights” adaptation.

“Nobody” – Feb. 4

Regardless of the difference in culture, Chinese films have proven to be box office guarantees—think “YOLO” in 2024 and “Ne Zha 2” in 2025, which grossed over $433 million and $2 billion globally, respectively.

“Nobody”

“Nobody,” which is touted as China’s number one 2D animated film, looks to follow a similar trend. What is it about? Describing it purely based on its synopsis won’t be effective as it delves into several elements of Chinese culture that not everyone will understand. Rather, in broad strokes, it follows a gang of four outcasts who attempt to prove their worth by taking the identity of another group.

“Song Sung Blue” – Feb. 4

While known for his iconic portrayal of Wolverine, Hugh Jackman undeniably brings the same level of tenacity to the stage, particularly with his performances in “The Greatest Showman” and “Les Misérables.”

Jackman looks to further add to his musical repertoire with “Song Sung Blue.” The film is based on the Neil Diamond band and follows two down-on-their-luck musicians who prove it’s never too late to find love and follow your dreams. Joining Jackman in the film are Kate Hudson and Ella Anderson.

Joe Keery and Georgina Campbell in “Cold Storage”

“Cold Storage” – Feb. 4

There’s something about Steve Harrington, employment, and monsters—and “Stranger Things” fans will surely love his upcoming film. Starring Joe Keery, Georgina Campbell, and Liam Neeson, “Cold Storage” follows two young employees and a grizzled bioterror operative, as they try to save humanity from a mutating fungus. Now that’s a night shift for the ages.

“The Loved One” – Feb. 11

Are you the lover, or the loved one? This upcoming Valentine’s treat follows former lovers Ellie and Eric, who meet again, with memories of a love and sorrow that never went away.

“The Loved One” stars Jericho Rosales and Anne Curtis, and is directed by Irene Emma Villamor.

“Goat”

“Goat” – Feb. 11

Name a basketball film that wasn’t fun. You can’t. From the studio behind “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” “Goat,” follows Will, a small goat who gets a once-in-a-lifetime shot to join a professional roarball team. His new teammates aren’t thrilled about having to play with a little goat, but Will sets out to prove that even smaller animals can hang with the best.

The film’s cast includes Caleb McLaughlin, Gabrielle Union, Stephen Curry, Nicola Coughlan, and David Harbour.

“Wuthering Heights” – Feb. 11

Again, Hollywood spouses will be tested as they see their partners be intimate and passionate with another. But for us, an intense yet sensual take on Emily Brontë’s “Wuthering Heights.” Starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, “Wuthering Heights” follows the forbidden and destructive love between Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw.

“Hamnet”

“Hamnet” – Feb. 18

Stage-to-film adaptations are taking the industry by storm and this latest from Academy Award® winning writer/director Chloé Zhao tells the story of love and loss that inspired the creation of Shakespeare’s “Hamlet.” The film stars Jessie Buckley, Paul Mescal, and Emily Watson.

“Whistle” Feb. 18

Our favorite horror plotline: a group of young and dumb students who find themselves grappling with forces they should have never bothered to begin with.

Starring Dafne Keen, Sophie Nelisse, and Percy Hynes White, “Whistle” follows a group of high school students who stumble upon an ancient Aztec Death Whistle. According to the film’s synopsis, “They discover that blowing the whistle and the terrifying sound it emits will summon their future deaths to hunt them down.”

“Crime 101”

“Crime 101” – Feb. 18

Starring Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Nick Nolte, and Halle Berry, “Crime 101” follows an elusive thief embarking on his biggest and final heist.

The film’s synopsis reads: As the multimillion-dollar heist approaches, relentless detective Lt. Lubesnik closes in on the operation, raising the stakes even higher, and the line between hunter and hunted starts to blur.

“Scream 7” – Feb. 25

2000s slashers will never get old, but here’s to hoping the latest entry in the “Scream” franchise won’t be like the “I Know What You Did Last Summer” sequel.

Starring Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, Isabel May, Anna Camp, Joel McHale, and Mckenna Grace, “Scream 7” follows Sidney Prescott as she finds that a new Ghostface Killer has her daughter in their sights.
