First official trailer released for “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery”

Detective Benoit Blanc returns to solve his third mystery in the official trailer for “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery,” the latest installment in director Rian Johnson’s highly acclaimed film series.

The two-minute-long teaser, which Netflix released on Sept. 8, promises a “classic, impossible crime” that will have audiences on the edge of their seats.

As a more twisted and dark comeback for the Knives Out universe, Wake Up Dead Man is introduced to audiences through the ominous ring of church bells and the back-lit silhouette of the young priest Jud Duplenticy (Josh O’Connor).

An older yet still dapper Detective Blanc (Daniel Craig) emerges in the next scene, describing his latest case as a “murder dressed as a miracle,” when Monsignor Jefferson Wicks (Josh Brolin) dies after walking into a sealed room after his sermon. And to make Wicks’ death even more confounding, all the locals of the seemingly small-town church managed to see him take his leave. Which, in Blanc’s eyes, makes them all potential suspects.

Since its release, the trailer has garnered multiple positive reactions online, with several praising its cinematography and religious mystery theme. “Wake Up Dead Man is the most visually striking and thematically potent character-based Knives Out flick to date,” writes a user on X.

Others have expressed their enthusiasm not only for the film, but for the franchise as a whole for its longevity. “The thing with these Knives Out movies is I could watch 100 of them and want some more, I think,” says another user on the same platform.
