Food for the Seoul: 7 favorite must-try spots
Traveling to Seoul in the peak of winter is a lesson in finding beauty in the slowdown. When the temperatures drop, and the wind bites through your coat, the city takes on a quiet, crisp magic. Most of my trip was defined by that specific mission: ducking into hidden alleys to escape the cold, finding a corner to thaw out my hands over a steaming cup, and seeking out soul-warming food that makes you forget the frost outside.
If I were back in Seoul tomorrow, these are the seven spots I’d walk through the snow all over again.

1. Artists Bakery
Since this is the sister brand to the famous London Bagel Museum, you can expect a bit of a wait, but the atmosphere inside is pure artisanal warmth. The space feels like a bustling European workshop with flour-dusted surfaces and the constant aroma of freshly baked dough. It is the perfect place to appreciate good food while watching the bakers at work.
The must-have: Gorgonzola honey baguette. This is a masterclass in flavor balancing, where the sharp, pungent notes of the gorgonzola are perfectly mellowed out by a generous drizzle of sweet honey on a crusty, warm baguette.
2. Kotton Seoul
This spot is a stunning example of Seoul’s “New-tro” aesthetic, where they have meticulously preserved the wooden skeleton of a traditional Hanok and updated it with sleek, industrial coffee tech. The contrast between the ancient architecture and the modern, moody lighting makes it one of the most serene places to decompress in Ikseon-dong. It’s the kind of environment that forces you to take a breath and stay a while.
The must-have: Einspänner. A classic Viennese-style coffee that Seoul has truly perfected, featuring a deep, bold black coffee topped with a thick, velvety layer of chilled cream that you sip through for the perfect temperature contrast.
3. Slingslide
If you are a coffee purist who wants to escape the “Instagram-trap” crowds, Slingslide is a hidden gem that focuses heavily on the mechanics of a perfect brew. The interior is minimalist and clean, providing a visual palate cleanser from the busy city streets outside. It’s a quiet, serious space where the focus remains entirely on the quality in the cup.
The must-have: Slingslide coffee. Their namesake signature drink is balanced and smooth, designed to highlight their specific roasting profile without being overpowered by milk or sugar.
4. Rami Scone
Located in the heart of the Hanok village, Rami Scone feels like a cozy, high-end cottage where everything is baked with a focus on wholesome ingredients. Their scones are famous for being “soufflé-style,” meaning they are much more moist and more substantial than the typical dry biscuit you might expect. It’s the ultimate comfort-food stop when your body needs a bit of a sugar boost to keep exploring the cold.
The must-have: Honey milk scone with cream cheese. It is incredibly dense and creamy, providing a rich, satisfying sweetness that pairs perfectly with a hot tea or coffee.

5. Friends & Yard
This Hannam-dong staple feels like a bright, leafy sanctuary that serves as the perfect neighborhood hangout. The large windows let in plenty of sunlight, making the space feel airy and warm even on the grayest days. It’s the ideal spot for a long, slow brunch where the focus is on high-quality ingredients and a relaxed, “friends-only” atmosphere.
The must-have: Truffle mushroom risotto or avocado toast. The risotto is deeply earthy and aromatic, providing that heavy, warm base, while the avocado toast is fresh, bright, and perfectly seasoned.

6. Ikseon Chihyang
Walking through the entrance feels like finding a secret garden in the middle of the city. The space features a beautiful courtyard and high ceilings that create an enchanting, almost magical atmosphere for a meal. It specializes in fusion comfort food that manages to feel both sophisticated and incredibly familiar, making it a top-tier choice for a long dinner.
The must-have: Chicken curry risotto or pork belly pasta. Both dishes are rich and hearty; the curry risotto offers a gentle heat to warm you up, while the pork belly pasta is decadent and perfectly savory.
7. Mokmyeoksanbang
Perched near Namsan Park, this Michelin-recognized spot serves some of the most soulful, clean Korean food in the city. Despite its accolades, the vibe remains humble and traditional, emphasizing the purity of mountain-grown ingredients. It is the quintessential spot for a “cleansing” meal that leaves you feeling energized rather than weighed down.
The must-have: Kimchi pancake (Kimchijeon). It’s perfectly crispy on the edges with just the right amount of tang and heat from the well-fermented kimchi. Dipping a hot, savory piece of this into their signature sauce while looking out at the Namsan scenery was easily one of the highlights of my trip.
