K-pop stans enjoy giving titles to their idols. Some are fun and meant to be taken lightly such as “baby girl,” “sunshine” and “sunshine protector.” But there are titles that are sources of pride, most of them bestowed after being named as a face of a specific brand. Fans can be very protective of these labels.

As petty as it sounds, fan wars have ensued over “It boy” and “It girl” names because monikers are affirmations of their idol’s popularity. Dominance is always insisted upon not just in music and dance, but also in fashion. For example, Blackpink’s Jennie is referred to as Human Chanel, while Jisoo is Human Dior.

The title “prince” or “princess” cannot be used on just anyone. They are usually reserved for the ambassadors of fashion houses. It’s quite common to see idols who are the faces of fashion houses being referred to with royal titles.

Donatella Versace has been quick to jump on this bandwagon. Versace endeared herself to two fandoms during the Milan Fashion Week. She referred to Ningning as her “princess” on her Instagram post. Aespa’s main vocalist recently joined Versace as the house’s new global ambassador.

Golden crown

The fashion designer took things a step further for her first Korean global ambassador, Stray Kids’ Hyunjin. Versace prepared a golden crown for him and playfully placed it on top of his head and told him, “Now you’re the Versace Prince.” She even referred to him as such in the caption of her post. Hyunjin and Ningning flanked fellow ambassador Anne Hathaway during the fall/winter show. The Hollywood actress wore a red leather dress.

The afterparty videos posted by guests showing Hyunjin and Hathaway participating (separately) in a dance-off also trended online. This gave the brand more engagement beyond the runway.

Hanni of NewJeans was a front-row favorite at Gucci, alongside Salma Hayek and Solange Knowles. She took over the internet in her brown ensemble that showed off the Marina chain on her neck, red Jackie bag on her arm and pointy heels.

Ferragamo named NCT’s Jeno as its first global male ambassador last year. Lefty, an influencer marketing platform, reported that two posts by him on Instagram led to $4.5 million in earned media value (EMV) for the brand. It’s not surprising that his presence at this year’s show has gained momentum online, especially on X (formerly Twitter). His white coordinates were shared on different platforms.

Fellow NCT member Jungwoo went to Milan to fulfill his duty as an ambassador for Tod’s. He looked sleek in his all-black look with a red turtleneck peeping out. Fellow SM Entertainment artist and Tod’s ambassador Joy of Red Velvet arrived in the same theme. She wore a black dress, white tote (which Heart Evangelista also carried, but in brown) and white pumps.

Main event

The main event for the Dolce & Gabbana showcase were global ambassadors NCT Doyoung and actress Moon Ga-young. Doyoung arrived in a black glitter blazer, glitter top, leather pants and knee-high boots. Moon looked phenomenal in her show-stopping outfit—a lacy sheer dress and white fur. Strappy heels completed her look. But what really made the “True Beauty” star stand out was her confidence.

Donatella Versace crowned Hyunjin as “Versace Prince” in her Reel.

“Doom at Your Service” actor Lee Soo-hyuk also attended the same event.

(G)i-dle Yuqi slayed Milan for Fendi in her red dress, Peekaboo handbag and strappy heels. Fans loved how she styled her hair in a bun.

Seventeen’s DK was the talk of the town when he attended fashion week for Bally. Fans gushed over his street style of a leather trench coat, jeans and white tank top that showed off his collar bones. He took time to meet with his fans and sign their merch.

Actor Ji Chang-wook showed up in an elegant all-white suit and dress shoes for Giorgio Armani. He earned praises for his natural look and charm. Fans were giddy that he met the designer himself.

But the most talked about topic set in Milan came in the form of dating news. Aespa’s Karina and “Alchemy of Souls” actor Lee Jae-wook confirmed, through their agencies, that they’re seeing each other. Dispatch broke the news. The two sat together on the front row of the Prada fashion show. Videos of them interacting surfaced in the wake of the confirmation. Both are brand ambassadors.

A prince meeting a princess on the runway is exactly the stuff fairy tales are made of.
