Lola Tung is leading the silk scarf revival—with a twist

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know Lola Tung as Belly from “The Summer I Turned Pretty.” Whether you’ve been giggling over Taylor’s now iconic line, “Is that a diamond or a sliver of tinfoil?” or seething in rage over Belly announcing their engagement, there is no escaping this drama. But sometimes, Isabel Conklin is not just the object of your frustration—she’s your fashion inspiration, too.
We’ve got Tung’s stylist, Britt McCamey, to thank for that. From a 2004 mini dress from Dior to an ankle-length Roberto Cavalli dress cropped into a mini skirt, Tung is not afraid to experiment with youthful configurations of timeless pieces. One particular look caught our eye when paparazzi spotted her with a silk scarf wrapped around her waist. With a furbaby in one arm and a black leather handbag on the other, the “Hadestown” alum may just be our next ultimate cool girl.
While silk scarves have always been a staple, you usually spot them around the neck, like a bandana à la Gracie Abrams, or even as an added accessory to your already fashionable bag. But Lola Tung made a statement when she stepped out of her vehicle with the iconic Coach logo styled like a sarong.

Tung and Chung rhyme for a reason
Tung follows the footsteps of fashion icon and model, Alexa Chung, who was previously seen wearing the silk scarf sarong. Her rendition of the look came with a fitted white tee tucked into her grey trousers and minimal accessories. No celebrity, much less the legendary Alexa Chung, leaves the house without a handy pair of sunglasses. And of course, you can’t ignore the glistening gold ring around her wrist. While Tung had Coach draped below her hips, Chung had Gucci.
Tung wore the look with similar elements, but with black sunglasses and a Coachtopia bag to match. Her shoes were out of sight in her loose checkered pants, the perfect pair to elongate her figure. A white tank can do no wrong, but she upped the ante with an even more unlikely accessory—untucked bra straps.

A Filipino twist to the silk scarf
If you’re looking for a way to elevate your own looks, we know exactly where you can get your next go-to accessory. Be warned, a silk scarf can be quite expensive, but it’s an easy and reliable way to spice up your regular outfit. And while a white tee and some loose trousers can do absolute wonders, sometimes, you need to add in a little flavor.
That’s when Martina Lebron comes in. Martina Lebron is a local line of scarves that are “a way to carry culture, creativity, and connection wherever you go.” Most recently, actress and comedienne Eugene Domingo donned the Amorsolo silk scarf as a breathtaking headpiece. While many pieces like the very one worn by Domingo and the Maria Clara are sold out, you can still purchase a few other Filipino designs online.
What makes it special is that not only you get to sport Pinoy pride, but you’ll also be one of few to do so! Everyone’s style is unique, but with this look, you’re guaranteed to stand out.
