Off to the circus at ‘Shake, Rattle and Ball 2024’

The highly anticipated annual “Shake, Rattle and Ball” returned Oct. 30 at Space, One Ayala with a Halloween celebration like no other, hosted by founder Tim Yap.

This year’s theme, “Cirque,” invited guests to revel in a carnival of creativity, featuring a dazzling fusion of artistic expression, Filipino culture, and the spirit of Halloween. “Shake, Rattle and Ball” continues to be a must-attend event for Manila’s creative elite and beyond, uniting visionaries from fashion, art, media, and entertainment for a night of unforgettable spectacle and camaraderie.

This year’s star-studded guest list included Donny Pangilinan as Frankenstein, Sarah Lahbati as Bella Baxter, Evan Tan as Hatter, and many more. Among the winners were Janeena Chan, Chloe San Jose, and Carlos Yulo, who took home special awards for their jaw-dropping outfits.

This year’s event at Space at One Ayala was an echo of the first Halloween event Yap hosted at Glorietta Activity Center.

“’Shake, Rattle and Ball’ was born out of a desire to bring together creatives who think outside the box,” Yap said. “It’s a celebration for artists, the eccentrics, and those who revel in pushing boundaries.”

From the event’s inception, “Shake, Rattle and Ball” has become a celebration of Filipino culture, blending Halloween traditions with themes that mirror the times and inspire reflection.

This year’s Cirque theme transformed the venue into a circus with a large-scale carousel centerpiece, floor-to-ceiling LEDs, and artwork by Filipino artist Saiz, creating an atmosphere that alludes to the upcoming “political circus.” Yap’s team at Yaparazzi Events created an immersive experience that brought together a diverse mix of guests.

A grand costume parade offered attendees the chance to showcase their most imaginative costumes and an array of interactive, cirque-inspired performances captivated the audience throughout the evening.
