Over 100 artists come together for worthy cause

Filipino visual artists were playing musical instruments in the al fresco second floor of a rejuvenated building in 21 West Capitol Drive when, as if on cue, a fireworks display began several blocks away. It was a night for celebration, after all, with friendships being made and rekindled as premiere art gallery Kapitolyo Art Space (KAS) opened its inaugural show at its new address.

Over 100 16 x 16 inch paintings were unveiled for the group exhibition “Projekt Kapitolyo,” signaling a new chapter for KAS as it moves to a three-story building just a few meters from its former home. KAS was founded in 2023 and has dedicated itself to cultivating a thriving arts community and driving innovation in the contemporary art scene.

With the new space, KAS welcomes emerging artists from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao who are open to the broad spectrum of contemporary art. The gallery and the team behind it aims to provide artists a platform for both commercial success and bold exploration in the heart of Pasig City. KAS is also looking to be a catalyst for artistic dialogue, knowledge sharing, and collaborative activities locally and globally through participation in international fairs.

The new space will hold exhibitions on the first and second floors and will feature an evolving collection of thought-provoking works. The second-floor al fresco area will house Arts and Beans Café, a place where coffee lovers and art aficionados alike can find and establish connections with like-minded individuals.

Art in healing

“Projekt Kapitolyo” is just one of the ways KAS can show how art can build a community as it supports the Shades of Pink Philippine Foundation Inc.

The exhibit includes works by the Father of Philippine Installation Art Junyee, Red Mansueto, Kitty Taniguchi, Gig De Pio, Hermisanto, Arnel Borja, Pen Medina, Sio Montera, Raymund Fernandez, Danni Sollesta, Pandy Aviado, and Eghai Roxas who curated the exhibit, to name a few.
