Painting mandalas with passion

Avatar

Karina Herrera-Orozco has always been into arts and crafts. Artistry and creativity run in the family, especially on her father’s side.

After stints in the corporate world, she decided to paint again during the pandemic. A friend challenged her to do a commissioned work and to paint his motorcycle as the subject. The painting turned out to be such a success that she decided to pursue her artistic passion. Her hand-painted mandala artworks were born.

The word mandala originated in India, and is a form of Buddhist art. It means “circle” in Sanskrit.

Herrera-Orozco’s fascination with configurations made her create unique, symmetrical patterns using vibrant acrylic paint on wood. She focuses on combining dot and brush painting on her mandalas. She incorporates craft mirrors and rhinestones, as well, to create textured layers and accents that invite viewers to look closer.

Her passion for mandalas is reflected in the beauty and tranquility each sacred geometrical motif exudes. Herrera-Orozco enters a meditative state of mind when painting, allowing one-of-a-kind patterns to unfold in front of her.
