Paranormal expert wants to raise understanding of psychism

Avatar

Psychic and paranormal expert Stargazer is offended whenever she gets compared to fortune tellers and card readers, so whenever she gets a chance to publicly talk about her profession, she said it is with the goal of raising people’s knowledge and understanding of psychism and eliminating “the fakes.”

Stargazer, who did not reveal her real name during this interview, has been using her “gift” to fight negative and harmful energy (“That’s my expertise”) for almost two decades. During our 30-minute session, she gave us an “aural reading,” revealed the true nature of the spirit attached to us and confided to us that a ghost—in the form of a young boy—was running around the huge function room of the Ayala Museum in Makati City, where we did the interview.

Stargazer also explained why ghosts should not be feared, and why encounters with dead loved ones are the most common. She even recalled the time she predicted how COVID-19 would enter into the country. She also explained the difference between psychics like her and those who call themselves astrologers, tarot card readers and healers (albularyo).

“This has everything to do with psychology. There are paranormal experts who aren’t psychics,” began Stargazer, citing former Lifestyle columnist Jaime Lichauco as one.

Aside from her ability to tap into a person’s aura or “energy field,” Stargazer is also a clairvoyant because she “trained to see, feel and project” what’s coming for another person.

Stargazer trained under the late Fr. Jaime Bulatao, then chair of the psychology department of Ateneo de Manila University, when she was enrolled as a communication arts student. What happened to Stargazer seemed so random. She was walking from one building to another, carrying books on Taoism and Buddhism, and a copy of the Quran, when Bulatao asked her, “Why all these books? Are you a theology student?”

When she replied that she was “searching for something,” he just smiled. He later touched her hand and said, “Would you like to further your gift?”

Strengths

From that time on, Father Bu (his nickname) helped her discover her strengths, which are mostly related to psychometry.

Her mentor also incorporated spirituality in Stargazer’s studies, she said, “because he was a priest and wanted to present a more holistic approach to everything.”

Stargazer said she considers her ability both a blessing and a curse. “There are things you just can’t unsee,” she explained. She can sense if a person is in danger or is nearing death, but has learned to be more cautious and discerning when it comes to telling people about this. She was able to

“save” some of them after convincing them to see their doctors, but she also came across instances when she felt like “it was really meant to be.”

An example was when she sensed that her grandmother would die the day the latter had her stroke and fell into a coma. “I simply looked at her from afar, tried to memorize every detail of her face. I wasn’t surprised when I learned about her stroke the following day,” she recalled.

Stargazer then explained why it was common for people to have encounters with the ghosts of their loved ones: “The connection between them was very personal. Whenever my grandmother would visit me in my dreams, it was always to warn me about something. This was the same person who raised me and believed in my gift. Communicating with the dead is also my forte.”

She also claimed we are lucky because she could see a “guardian” standing beside us, one who gives off good energy. “This has been shielding you from accidents and danger. You are blessed.”

‘Mysterious disease’

An episode of the talk show “Magandang Buhay” in 2019 featured Stargazer talking about “a mysterious disease that is related to pneumonia.” She claimed the disease would come from China and would first infect a province in the Visayas.

“I think I’m the only Filipino psychic to have publicly predicted COVID-19. Of course, I didn’t fully understand what I saw back then but I knew it was something big,” she said.

“When one of the hosts asked for our predictions, another guest a tarot card reader said 2020 would be a good year. The camera caught my grim expression. I simply said grim expression. I simply said the only good thing I saw was that online business would boom. Little did I know that this was because we wouldn’t be able to leave our homes,” she recalled.

Through the years, Stargazer has appeared in many gazer has appeared in many TV programs where she would participate in what are called “spirit quests.” In a 2018 “Rated K” episode, she was caught on camera speaking to the spirit of a woman in one of the haunted houses the production team had visited.

For Stargazer, being ethical in all of her dealings is important. She tells a client whether or not there’s paranormal activity in his house (as opposed to merely a rat infestation), or whether or not he is really a victim of kulam (sorcery).

“It hurts when people refer to me as manghuhula or compare me to those who pretend to read cards for people in Quiapo. That’s not what psychism is all about. But I’ve also learned that there’s no sense in showing people my diploma or certificates to make my achievements known to them. I remind practitioners that before they claim to be psychics, they have to go through various processes of verification. If somebody wants to test me, I will be ready.”

Stargazer currently hosts a radio program titled “Feel Kita,” where she talks about the paranormal in a more understandable approach, every Saturday, 8 p.m., on Radyo 630.
