Skincare for when my skin needs a little extra attention

Colleen Cosme

Sometimes, my usual skincare routine just isn’t enough. Whether from unexpected breakouts, excess shine, or a complexion that looks more tired than usual, I’ve learned to keep extra products on hand for when my skin needs a little extra TLC.

Here are five products that might help you as well.

Sisley Paris Corrective Serum for Blemish-Prone Skin

For when breakouts start making an appearance: Sisley Paris Corrective Serum for Blemish-Prone Skin

Breakouts are frustrating enough on their own, but it’s the ones that keep returning to the same spots that can be especially difficult to manage. There’s nothing I hate more than treating a breakout—only to end up with dry, flaky patches that become even more noticeable under makeup.

Sisley Paris takes a gentler approach with its Corrective Serum for Blemish-Prone Skin. Formulated to address existing blemishes while helping reduce their recurrence, it combines succinic acid, which gently exfoliates and helps unclog pores, with pomegranate peel and roucou seed extracts to manage excess sebum. Prickly pear flower extract also helps improve uneven texture and the appearance of lingering post-breakout marks.

What I particularly like is that the formula is designed to treat blemishes without stripping the skin of moisture. Unlike more drying acne treatments, it aims to preserve the skin barrier, so you’re less likely to be left dealing with tightness, flaking, or rough, dry patches while trying to clear a breakout.

Its lightweight texture also makes it easy to incorporate into a morning or evening routine.

NUXE Mattifying Fluid Pore Minimizer

For when my pores look more noticeable than usual: NUXE Mattifying Fluid Pore Minimizer

There’s a fine line between a healthy glow and excess shine, especially in humid weather when my T-zone seems to have a mind of its own.

NUXE’s Mattifying Fluid Pore Minimizer is a lightweight moisturizer that helps keep excess shine under control without sacrificing hydration. Its refreshing gel texture feels comfortable on the skin and leaves a matte finish, making it particularly appealing for daytime use or underneath makeup.

The brand’s consumer testing also offers some promising figures: 84 percent of users reported more refined skin texture from the first application, while 87 percent of volunteers noticed reduced excess sebum after seven days.

Beyond managing shine, the formula helps soften the appearance of enlarged pores and makes skin look smoother and more even over time. It’s a good option for days when you want smoother-looking and hydrated skin without the extra shine that sometimes comes with it.

For when my complexion starts looking dull: Hada Labo Premium Whitening Lotion

There are days when my skin looks a little lackluster, especially when I’ve been inconsistent with my skincare. Old blemish marks are still hanging around, and my complexion doesn’t look quite as even as I’d like.

Hada Labo’s Premium Whitening Lotion addresses dullness and uneven skin tone while keeping hydration a priority. The Philippine Shirojyun Premium Whitening formula features WhiTeq—a combination of brightening ingredients, including alpha-arbutin, niacinamide, and vitamin C, alongside hyaluronic acid to help maintain moisture.

Despite its name, this isn’t a traditional heavy lotion. It has a lightweight, watery consistency that I consider more of a toner, making it easy to layer with the rest of my skincare. I also appreciate that it adds a brightening step without making the routine feel overly complicated.

Of course, dark spots and discoloration don’t disappear overnight. Consistent use, along with daily sunscreen, matters more than expecting an instant transformation, but this is an easy product to add to any existing routine.

Haruharu Wonder Black Rice Probiotics Barrier 2% NAD+ Serum Mist

For when my skin needs a midday pick-me-up: Haruharu Wonder Black Rice Probiotics Barrier 2% NAD+ Serum Mist

Spending hours in air-conditioned rooms can leave my skin feeling dehydrated, especially when I’ve been wearing makeup all day. And while I love a good face mist, I want something that does a little more than briefly make my face feel wet.

Haruharu Wonder’s Black Rice Probiotics Barrier 2% NAD+ Serum Mist combines the convenience of a spray with the moisturizing ingredients you’d expect from a serum. Its formula contains fermented black rice, probiotics, panthenol, and a five-ceramide complex to help support the skin barrier and prevent moisture loss.

It also contains 2% NAD+, a coenzyme involved in cellular processes that has recently attracted attention in skincare. While research into its benefits when applied topically is still developing, the mist’s hydrating and barrier-supporting ingredients are already compelling reasons to keep it around.

The formula also has a lightweight, water-like feel of a mist that can use it after cleansing or spritz it throughout the day, even over makeup—particularly handy when your skin starts feeling tight but you don’t want to disturb everything you’ve already applied.

Biodance Rejuvenating Caviar PDRN Real Deep Mask

For when my skin deserves a little extra TLC: Biodance Rejuvenating Caviar PDRN Real Deep Mask

Some evenings call for a longer skincare routine, especially after a busy week when my complexion looks tired and could use some extra moisture. This is usually when I reach for a sheet mask—partly for the skincare benefits and partly because it’s a good excuse to do absolutely nothing for a while.

Biodance’s Rejuvenating Caviar PDRN Real Deep Mask is a hydrogel treatment formulated with caviar water and extract, salmon-derived PDRN, and niacinamide. PDRN has become a popular ingredient in Korean skincare, particularly in products that promise rejuvenation and improved skin quality. Together with moisturizing ingredients such as glycerin and squalane, the formula is designed to hydrate skin and improve the appearance of uneven texture.

Unlike a conventional sheet mask, the hydrogel format gradually becomes more transparent as you wear it. What I love most is that you can see the difference immediately after removing it. My skin looks plumper, smoother, and noticeably healthier, with that well-rested glow that seems to last throughout the week.

It’s the kind of treatment I like to save for a quiet evening at home, especially when I want my skin looking its best for the days ahead.
