Sky-high DJ nights for young party posses

Hotels aren’t the first place young people think of when they want to party.

The Gen Z crowd, which typically gravitates toward the communal vibe of club hubs and the spontaneity of street-level nightspots, may see hotels as too ritzy and buttoned-up, weighed down by rules and restrictions.

The Peak, a dining and entertainment hangout at the Grand Hyatt Manila, switches up the vibe. Once home to intimate acoustic evenings that drew a mostly mature crowd, its music lounge now pulses with entrancing house and electronic dance music (EDM) beats.

After all, the hotel already offers more subdued options—like No. 8 China House and The Cellar—that cater to the mellower tastes of the older set.

Now, by offering all-DJ shows from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. (Tuesdays to Thursdays) and 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. (Fridays and Saturdays), The Peak hopes to lure in a younger crowd—especially those seeking something different or a slightly elevated (quite literally) experience.

Perched on the 60th floor, The Peak offers stunning city skyline views of Bonifacio Global City—a fitting backdrop to the head-bobbing music, overflowing cocktails, and buzz of revelry.

Sure enough, the DJ showcase’s recent launch night attracted Gen Z party posses and more than a few millennials in business casual, seeking after-work wind-downs.

A lychee martini set the night’s tone. And to officially kick things off, girls in sparkly, cabaret-inspired costumes danced from table to table, serving dollops of Nomad Caviar’s Kaluga caviar on the backs of guests’ hands—followed by a shot of ice-cold Belvedere vodka.

Meanwhile, DJs Abbduct and Suzuki kept the energy high with a heady stream of dance music from the booth—pop tunes and surprising club remixes, from Daft Punk’s “Technologic” and Kylie Minogue’s “Magic” to Milk Bar’s “Manhattan” and Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso.”

Drinking and partying on an empty stomach is an invitation to a hangover. So before you throw down, chow down at The Peak’s grill and restaurant, where we had grilled Australian Mulwarra striploin steak and strawberry cheesecake, and pregamed with Grand Hyatt’s signature Red Sangria and green appletini.

If you need a minute away from the mayhem on the floor, head up to the counter-style seats wrapped around a balcony overlooking the dance floor. There’s a whisky bar and speakeasy for those who want a quieter wrap-up. Or you could just chill in the window-side nooks, sipping passionfruit cocktails as the rhythm slows and the hours slip by.

The Peak is at Grand Hyatt Manila, 8th Avenue, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. For reservations, email manila.grand@hyatt.com.
