Swooning over sparkles

I do like brands, but not what everyone is wearing.

Even as I write this article, I feel like such a hypocrite because I see my wrists and I am wearing some very available, staple pieces.

I do love them. In fact, most are gifts. Not only are they beautiful, but they also hold sentimental value. But that truly is jewelry’s essence, is it not? They are precious pieces we adorn ourselves with that bring us joy, and if passed down, even carry nostalgia.

Recently, I’ve noticed everyone’s bling has started to look alike. And it has pushed me to crave lesser-known brands. In truth, that is why how we stack our metals is so important (but that’s a whole other article altogether), because that shows our individuality.

Here are the top five brands I wish to have in my jewelry box.

1. Nadine Ghosn. I first chanced upon her pencil bracelet during Art SG, and I have been dreaming about it since. Her pieces are everyday objects transformed into fine jewelry that are fun conversation pieces. Look at her veggie burger ring!

2. There is something that reminds me of our traditional tamborin jewelry when I see Buccellati pieces. And I think it’s because of the intricate craftsmanship they are known for that mimics lace and tulle. I do love their cuffs, but in the meantime, I am hoping to add the blossom gardenia silver and vermeil pendant earrings to my collection. It is versatile enough to wear from the beach to the ball, plus I do believe it will look good with most Filipiniana ensembles.

3. I love a little rock and roll, and Repossi knows how to do it so elegantly. How they balance these two opposing thoughts is beyond me. For those who want to add some spice to their collection but still want to keep it traditional and classy with precious stones, try their ear cuffs.

4. Thanks to my friend who always invites me to Maison Mellerio’s events, I was introduced to the oldest family-run jewelry house. I am obsessed with their necklaces with colored stones, which I keep imagining myself wearing with either a simple tee or to a ball. It’s so elegant and romantic yet sculptural at the same time.

5. I know a French line by heart thanks to the Gstaad Guy, and those who follow him know just what it is. That said, I want a Poubel bracelet! It may not be gold, and its charms are enamel, but that’s what I love about it. You can build your own sets, and you have charms from rubber ducks to tennis balls. Accessorizing should be fun and, in all honesty, it’s not to be taken too seriously. Something I must remember.
