Top watercolorists honored at 36th Kulay sa Tubig

Outstanding watercolorists once again took centerstage when Genesis Gallery hosted the 36th edition of its own laudable initiative, Kulay sa Tubig National Watercolor Invitational Competition. Out of over 300 entries, 97 made it to the finals and five went on becoming winners with five more as runners-up. The awards ceremony took place on September 20 at Gallery Genesis’ location at Estancia Mall in Ortigas district, Pasig City.

Felipe De Leon Jr. (chairman, board of judges), Blanca Mercado (president, The Manila Times,) Araceli Salas (founder, Gallery Genesis), Rudyard Arbolado (CEO, Philippine Daily Inquirer), Ernie Salas (chairman, Elsal Ventures) and Cid Reyes (member, board of judges)

The Top 5 consisted of Mc Miller Andes for “Lambat ni Erpat Sana Maka Jackpot,” Rolando Guina for “Solitude,” Mark Payawal for “Panhik,” Crispin Tuazon for “Bagito,” and Benedict Arquero, “Calle Luna Corner Quirino Blvd Vigan City.”

Runners-up were William Alcantara for “Daungan ng Isda (Fishport),” Kevin Lacanaria for “Init ng Liwanag na Tumatama sa Daloy ng Buhay ng Palengke,” Rhodelyn Come for “Ivatan Girl,” Alfredo Morales for “Root World,” and Julius Legaspi for “Quinta Market, Quiapo.”

“It’s really about uplifting everybody for the love of the art,” Gallery Genesis president Patrice Salas told Inquirer’s Lifestyle at the event-cum-exhibit opening. All 97 artworks are on display until October 4.
