Vic Sotto on love and second chances

Avatar

The question of whether love is sweeter the second time around is one that actor and TV host Vic Sotto refuses to answer.

Sotto married actress Dina Bonnevie in 1982, and together they had two children, Danica and Oyo. Their marriage was annulled in 1992. After a considerable period, Sotto found love again and married Pauleen Luna in 2016. The couple now has daughters named Talitha and Thia. During the years between his marriages, Sotto had children with Coney Reyes (Vico) and Angela Luz (Paulina).

The actor explained his decision to remarry some 24 years after the first one was annulled, “It took me a while before I settled down again. I can’t say it’s because it had gotten too difficult for me to truly fall in love again. I believe that when you find the right one for you, you will really feel it. I can say the wait was all worth it.”

He added: “I now have a good and loving wife. But, of course, my children are really the ones who serve as my inspiration.”

When asked if falling in love the second time is indeed sweeter, Sotto laughed and replied, “I cannot comment about this because they might read this.”

Sotto pointed out that his children were supportive of his decision to remarry. “If there’s anyone who knows my real personality, it’s them. They are aware of what’s really happening in my life, off-cam. That is why when it comes to my happiness, they give me their all-out support,” he added.

Sotto has shared his thoughts about his marriage to Luna in various interviews. In a recent chat with Lifestyle, the actor pointed out the importance of open communication in their relationship. “No secrets. If there’s something to discuss, we talk about it immediately,” he said.

In another interview, he said he first had “a heartfelt conversation” with his children to make sure that they understood and accepted his decision.

Looking back, Sotto acknowledged that he was an absentee father to his older children, crediting much of their upbringing to their mothers. He also expressed his intention to make it up to them by spending more time with them now. In contrast, with his younger children from his marriage to Luna, he has been more present, witnessing significant milestones.

When asked about his personal prayers for himself and his family, Sotto shared, “When I pray, it’s more of saying thank you to God for whatever is happening in my life. I also thank Him for all the trials and challenges that come my way because they make me a better person.”

He added, “For my family, I always pray for their peace of mind and good health. These are the things that I consider most important.”
