Carl Martin Agustin

All eyes are on December’s cinematic double header “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Dune: Part 3.” But don’t sleep just yet on this month’s slate of films, which includes several must-see local dramas, as well as a highly anticipated prequel to a beloved book franchise.

Dr. Seuss’ “The Cat in the Hat” comes to life in an epic adventure where the Cat, voiced by Bill Hader, embarks on an assignment for the I.I.I.I. (Institute for the Institution of Imagination and Inspiration, LLC) to bring cheer to a pair of siblings struggling with their move to a new town.

“How to Rob a Bank” – Nov. 11

In this star-studded action flick, a group of content creators/bank robbers expose the corrupt banking system one heist at a time. However, with their growing fame, they soon fall under the crosshairs of the FBI—putting their grandiose performance at risk.

It’s a film about the little guy sticking it to the system—an age-old tale. Still, the ironic part is that it’s literally funded by Amazon.

“How to Rob a Bank” is directed by David Leitch and stars Nicholas Hoult, Zoë Kravitz, Anna Sawai, Rhenzy Feliz, Christian Slater as Walton, with Pete Davidson and John C. Reilly.

Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera reunite to bring audiences to tears again. In “Remember,” an estranged couple must pretend to be a loving pair after their daughter risks losing her memory.

The two choose to put differences aside for the sake of their daughter, but soon find out that they too had forgotten something very important to them.

“You Can See Everything” – Nov. 18

Documentaries peer behind the curtain and offer new perspectives on events we thought we knew everything about—even the condemnation of a widely known fraud. In “You Can See Everything,” directors Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim follow notorious Silicon Valley founder Elizabeth Holmes thirty-four days before she’s sent to prison.

Holmes gained notoriety after she went public with health technology company Theranos, which claimed to have revolutionized blood testing. However, after the company was valued at billions, allegations of fraud later surfaced, leading Holmes to be sentenced to 11 years in prison.

“The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping” – Nov. 18

While Katniss Everdeen will forever be known as the one who ended the Hunger Games and the Capitol’s iron-fisted rule, many unsung heroes behind the scenes set in motion the dominoes leading up to this rebellion.

“The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping” follows sixteen-year-old Haymitch Abernathy as he takes part in the 50th Annual Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell.

Welcoming new in-laws isn’t always so easy, because it also entails somewhat letting go of your loved one. In “Focker In-Law,” Ben Stiller faces the music as his beloved son introduces his would-be fiancée.
