To my Dadi in heaven,
How are you? It’s your birth month, and I find myself reflecting on you more than ever. Do you still read newspapers up there? I recently had the honor of writing a story for a newspaper, carrying our family name with pride. Just like the brave firefighter you were, you raised a brood with a bold and unwavering spirit that I strive to embody every day.
You were a very big, fearsome man, yet you had such a gentle heart for animals. It has been raining here, and I’ve seen many homeless cats and dogs out on the streets. I wish I could shelter them, just as you always kept our home open to every stray when I was little. I’m glad you’re in a better place now, reunited with Backie, Darla, Lilong, Mimi and all the pets you loved and took care of.
I’m sorry I couldn’t be there during your last moments, but I hope it brings you some peace to know I am close to reaching my dreams. This one’s for you, Dadi.
