It’s tough to sell a brand-new car these days, especially with fuel costs practically doubling over the last few weeks, as of press time.

But for those who really need a car that offers generous space and frugal fuel consumption for a low price, Changan may be just in time. Inchcape Philippines, the official importer and distributor of Changan locally, officially launched the all-new Eado Plus compact sedan on Wednesday at its flagship showroom in Pasig City.

The Eado Plus replaces the brand’s strong-selling Alsvin and is aimed at four-door, entry-level stalwarts like the Toyota Vios, Mitsubishi Mirage G4 and MG 5, along with larger models like the Toyota Corolla Altis and MG GT.

“Introduced in China in 2012, the Changan Eado was offered to meet the rising demand for stylish and efficient sedans,” Inchcape Philippines said in a press statement.

“In 2025, with an impressive sales volume of 168,900, the model was hailed as the No. 1 Gasoline Sedan Brand in China by the China Passenger Car Association,” the company added. “The all-new Changan Eado Plus is on full throttle, as it is set to become a key competitor in the compact sedan segment, and one of the brand’s volume drivers this year.”

Two variants are available, namely the entry-level Eado Plus Lite and the top-spec Eado Plus Luxe.

Striking face

Changan’s big four-door would be hard to miss, especially with its large, gloss-black front grill that extends into the lower bumper and stretches wide into the halogen projector headlights with LED daytime running lights.

Down the side, a high beltline is complemented by a strong character line that runs between the windows and the door handles. The Lite variant comes standard with 16-inch steel wheels, while the Luxe model gets 16-inch alloy wheels.

At the rear are full-width LED taillights that are emphasized by the subtle integrated trunk spoiler, while the rear reflectors flank the license-plate holder. The Eado Plus is available in four colors, namely White, Black, Andean Gray and the special-order Titanium Silver Gray.

Huge interior

Step inside this new sedan and you are greeted by a crisp cabin design that looks more modern than the likes of the ancient Vios, Mirage G4 and MG5.

All models get pleasant fabric upholstery, a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster, LED reading lights, a 12-volt power socket and two USB ports for the front and rear passengers, along with a PM2.5-grade air filter for the air-conditioning system. The Lite variant likewise gets a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth and USB connectivity.

Meanwhile, the Luxe model exclusively comes equipped with a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as automatic climate control with rear air vent, tilting-and-telescoping steering wheel, electronic gear selector and folding rear seats to expand the cargo capacity of the huge 500-liter trunk.

Simple mechanicals

The Eado Plus eschews complicated turbo and/or hybrid power for a naturally aspirated 1.5-liter, twin-cam, 16-valve gasoline engine producing 105 horsepower and 145 Newton-meters of torque.

All models get a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (with Eco and Normal driving modes for the Luxe), plus electric power steering, MacPherson front suspension and torsion-beam rear suspension.

Safety gear is par for the course – all models feature dual front airbags, anti-lock brakes, traction control, hill-hold control, hill-start assist, rear parking sensors and ISOFIX child-restraint anchors. Moving up to the Luxe gets you side airbags, an electronic parking brake, reversing camera, push-start ignition, remote engine start and speed-sensing door locks.

The all-new 2026 Changan Eado Plus starts at P750,000 for the Lite variant and goes up to P799,999 for the Luxe model. But Inchcape Philippines said that it will offer a special introductory price of P699,000 for the Eado Plus Lite and P749,999 for the Eado Plus Luxe until March 30, 2026.
