All-new 2025 Porsche Macan offers coupe style, EV punch

Avatar

Porsche may have a decades-long association with sports cars, courtesy of the iconic 911, but it has also been a trailblazer in the sport-utility vehicle (SUV) and electric-vehicle (EV) markets.

Starting with the Cayenne in 2002, the German automaker expanded its SUV lineup in 2014 with the more compact Macan. Porsche also took the fight to American automaker Tesla by launching the Taycan supersport EV in 2019.

Now, if you happen to be looking for a Porsche with the blistering EV performance of the Taycan, but with the space and practicality of an SUV, you’re in luck. Porsche Philippines officially launched the all-new 2025 Macan on Sunday at the inaugural match of the 20th Enrique Zobel Memorial Polo Cup at the Manila Polo Club in Makati City.

Porsche Macan

“With the introduction of the new, all-electric Porsche Macan, we have doubled our product lineup of fully electric vehicles,” said Porsche Philippines president and CEO Robert Coyiuto III in a press statement.

“This charges up our range of offerings and gives discerning customers a complete array of powertrain options to choose from – fully electric, hybrid or combustion engine,” he added.

Sleeker appearance

The first thing that catches your eye when you see the latest Macan is the rear end.

Gone is the formal SUV roofline, replaced with a coupe-like silhouette with a steeply raked rear windscreen. The full-width LED taillights emphasize the Macan’s generous proportions, while the pert rear bumper smartly combines ruggedness and sophistication.

Indeed, the new Macan’s more rakish side profile is emphasized by the large D-pillar, high windowline, frameless windows, and well-integrated, matte-black protective plastic on the doors and wheel arches. Up front, the distinct Porsche DNA is all the more apparent by the high-mounted, four-point LED daytime running lights, with the main beams located lower down.

EV heave

The next big thing about the all-new Macan is the availability of new battery EV powertrains that include 100-kWh battery packs.

Topping the lineup is the mighty Macan Turbo, sporting two Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors for all-wheel-drive capability. With 639 horsepower and a monumental 1,130 Newton-meters of torque, this all-electric rocket ship can do 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds and silently gallop all the way to 260 km/h.

There’s also the Macan 4, another dual-motor variant that gets 408 horsepower and 650 Newton-meters of torque – this accomplishes the 0 to 100 km/h sprint in just 5.2 seconds. Both variants will be joined by the rear-wheel-drive Macan that packs 360 horsepower and 563 Newton-meters of torque.

The Macan Turbo has a claimed maximum WLTP range of 591 kilometers, while the Macan 4 can go up to 613 kilometers on a full charge. In addition, owners can enjoy long, noise-free journeys in the single-motor Macan, which has a claimed maximum WLTP range of 641 kilometers.

Porsche Philippines said all Macan EV models have up to 270 kW of DC-charging capacity, allowing the battery to be charged from 20 to 80 percent in just 21 minutes. There’s also 11-kW AC-charging capability with household wall boxes.

Capable handling

The Macan is likewise packed with technology that promises to deliver the much-beloved Porsche driving experience, which can be likened to the thoroughbreds that ably handled that afternoon’s polo match.

Porsche Traction Management controls all the electric motors and can operate five times faster than a conventional all-wheel-drive system. The carmaker claims the system can respond to wheel slip within 10 milliseconds.

In addition, the adaptive air suspension with height adjustment and levelling interacts with the driving modes in the latest Porsche Active Suspension Management system for optimal ride and handling in all conditions. Porsche Philippines said shock absorbers with two-valve technology ably balance comfort and control.

Sumptuous cabin

Inside, the all-new Macan offers a lower seating position than the previous model, adding to the SUV’s more sporting flavor.

Besides the generous amount of soft leather, Porsche’s latest SUV integrates an almost-entirely digital dashboard, courtesy of the 12.6-inch curved gauge cluster, the 10.9-inch central infotainment display and the 10.9-inch passenger display. The Macan also gets ambient lighting that can provide information or warnings to the driver.

These are all operated by the faster Porsche Communication Management system, with the Porsche Driver Experience system getting an upgraded design that includes a “welcome” animation and the new Themes app that adjusts the background of the displays and ambient lighting to match the exterior color.

The company said the all-new Macan offers 540 liters of cargo space with the rear seats up and 1,348 liters with the rear seats down. And because this is an EV, the space that would have been taken by an enormous engine has been replaced with an 84-liter “frunk” for added storage.

Ready whenever, wherever

The all-new Macan EV joins Porsche Philippines’ expanded electrified lineup, which includes the updated 2025 Taycan EV that was launched locally last month and the larger Porsche Cayenne e-Hybrid.

Given that the Manila Polo Club has been the stomping ground of the Philippines’ finest thoroughbreds, it seemed only fitting that Porsche Philippines chose the historic field to debut its own thoroughbred – one that is more capable of preserving natural beauty that horses and other creatures can fully enjoy.
