All-new Mitsubishi Destinator set to unfold
It’s already the last quarter of the year. And for our local Mitsubishi fans, this signals the arrival of the much-anticipated all-new DestinatorIf you remember it correctly, this newest sport utility vehicle (SUV) debuted as a concept vehicle last October 2024 as the “DST SUV” during the Philippine International Motor Show.
With its ongoing mass production, along with its introduction during the 32nd GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show last July, the SUV’s inevitable arrival has anticipation boiling up our throats.
The Destinator has or is currently rolling out in other ASEAN markets, as well as in South Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa.
The all-new Destinator is being manufactured at Krama Yudha in Indonesia.
Developed under the product concept of a “Confidence Booster for Energetic Families,” the vehicle is a seven-seater midsize SUV featuring a spacious three-row layout. It was named as such in hopes that it will empower drivers and their beloved families “to pursue new destinations with confidence”.
The Destinator is an amalgam of refined, authentic SUV design, together with a spacious, premium interior.
It claims to deliver powerful, exhilarating acceleration and safe, reliable driving performance across any terrain.
According to the Gateway Motor executive vice president, Michael Goho, whose family owns a number of Mitsubishi dealerships nationwide, the Destinator looks very futuristic—like a bigger, more refined X-Force.
“It has a bold, dynamic stance and the kind of SUV presence Filipinos naturally like.”
He added: “Inside, it’s a big upgrade: more premium, better tech, and a truly spacious seven-seater cabin. You immediately feel the value for money.”
Overall, for Goho, it looks and feels more expensive than it is, making the vehicle very competitive in its segment.
Under the hood, this SUV is equipped with a 1.5-liter MIVEC turbo engine based on the proven design of the 4B40 turbo engine. It features a water-cooled intercooler and a high expansion ratio cycle (Atkinson cycle) to achieve both powerful acceleration and high-fuel efficiency.
With a maximum output of 163 hp and a maximum torque of 250 N-m , it is said to offer an exciting ride with smooth and responsive acceleration.
Favorite feature and potential in the local market
When asked what his favorite of the all-new Destinator is, Goho replied:
“My favorite feature is the seven-seater flexibility combined with the improved tech and infotainment.”
“It delivers premium comfort, practical space, and modern convenience—features that matter most to Filipino families. And all of that comes at a very competitive price point.”
In a nutshell, he said that the vehicle has a huge potential in the local market.
He believes that our country is an SUV market.
“People want higher ground clearance, space, and versatility, especially with floods and rougher roads.”
“The Destinator meets all those needs while staying reliable, practical, and affordable. For many families, it’s a “no-brainer” choice,” he continued.
“With the right marketing push, it can easily become a volume driver and a real contender in its class.”
The all-new Mitsubishi Destinator is set to officially launch this November 20 at the ASEANA City Concert Grounds in Parañaque.
