The government of Valenzuela City led by its mayor, Hon. Weslie Gatchalian, is ever adamant in further advancing its environmental goals. With this, they recently rolled out 41 BYD Dolphin electric vehicle units for its police force; thus, making it the biggest in the country.

The initiative is a signed contract between the municipality and BYD Cars Philippines, in collaboration with ACMobility.

These units are to be supplied by BYD Greenfield; hence, likewise making Valenzuela City the first local government unit to have an EV police fleet.

“Starting with the transformation of our fleets, beginning with police cars, we set a powerful example for private companies, communities, and individuals to reconsider their own choices,” said Gatchalian.

“We recognize that our vision will not materialize overnight, but today, we take the wheel of change and drive towards the horizon of a cleaner future, where progress does not come at the expense of the environment,” he added.

The sustainable mobility initiative by the city will provide round-the-clock security coverage while supporting Valenzuela’s shift to cleaner mobility solutions.

Also, it aligns with the city’s sustainability goals and complies with the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act (EVIDA) and Republic Act No. 1285, which promote EV adoption in government operation.

According to BYD Cars Philippines managing director, Bob Palanca, meanwhile, that by eliminating the need for fuel and significantly reducing maintenance costs, their EVs offer the city the potential to save up to 70 percent of its fleet’s operational and maintenance budget over a five-year period.

“This, combined with its zero tailpipe emissions, makes the BYD Dolphin a financially- and environmentally-sound investment for the city.”

Together with this, ACMobility will deploy 20 7kW and two 22kW electric vehicle chargers across the city to reinforce this shift and ensure the seamless operation of Valenzuela’s electrified police fleet.

Valenzuela City, with its commitment to sustainability through several key initiatives, is setting the benchmark in not just pursuing law and order in its communities but also in pushing a greener future through mobility. This endeavor represents a significant leap forward in reducing the city’s carbon footprint, as well as advancing cleaner, more sustainable mobility solutions.
