Updated 2025 Porsche 911 now in the Philippines
The Porsche 911 is 60 years old this year. Launched in September 1964, this spawn of Stuttgart has largely retained the same formula – two doors, 2+2 seating and a flat-6 engine way out back. Put another way, the original 911’s contemporaries included the Datsun 240Z, the Chevrolet Corvette C2 (or Sting Ray) and, a little later on, the Ferrari Dino.
In fact, the McLaren racing team had only just been founded by New Zealander Bruce McLaren in 1963, while the eponymous British company that would later create the F1 supercar and P1 hypercar was born in 1985.
Through all this, Porsche’s svelte sports car has become, arguably, a historical figure that has lived through and survived great changes throughout the world. And its latest iteration, the facelifted 992.2, is now in the Philippines for the latest generation of passionate (and well-monied) drivers to enjoy.
Cleaner exterior
Although critics say the 911 has looked the same for what seems like an eternity, it is this aesthetic consistency that has perhaps made it iconic and truly unmistakable from other sports cars.
Compared to the earlier 992.1, this 2025 iteration sports model-specific front aprons, while all lighting functions have been integrated into the two large Matrix LED headlights. Porsche Philippines said this allowed designers to make larger cooling vents at the front of the car.
The latest 911 Carrera also gets 20-inch alloy wheels with 245/35 series tires up front and 21-inch alloy wheels with 305/30 series tires at the rear. Out back, the broad tail of the 911 Carrera has a redesigned LED light strip and rear grill, along with a higher placement for the number plate.
Digital interior
The most notable changes to the latest 911 Carrera are inside.
A fully digital cockpit replaces the traditional array of gauges from previous models – the 12.6-inch curved display has seven views, including an exclusive classic display that reanimates the traditional Porsche five-dial setup (with the tachometer naturally dead center).
In the middle of the 2025 911 Carrera’s cabin is a 10.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system that integrates Porsche Communication Management and offers improved compatibility for Apple CarPlay. Other options in the Carmine Red unit on display at Porsche Philippines include the Sport ChronoPackage, a Bose surround-sound system and 14-way electric sports seats.
Finally, the much-loved ignition barrel on the left of the steering wheel (harking back to GT cars of yore) has been replaced with a neat starter button.
Peppier performance
The 911’s “Carrera” nameplate didn’t actually appear until 1973 with the launch of the 911 Carrera 2.7 RS, a stripped-down model with more horsepower that was designed for racing.
With the motorsport honors nowadays going to the GT3, the Carrera designation is for the less track-focused 911s – but this doesn’t mean they lack heave. The newest 992.2 Carrera gets a heavily revamped 3.0-liter, twin-cam, 24-valve flat-6 with twin turbochargers taken from the previous-generation Carrera GTS.
In addition, the new 911 Carrera gets a charge-air cooler mounted atop the engine, as in the 911 Turbo. All this translates to 394 horsepower at 7,500 rpm and 450 Newton-meters of torque, mated to an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Porsche Philippines claims 0 to 100 km/h in a thoroughly rapid 4.1 seconds, going down to an even more brisk 3.9 seconds for 911 Carreras with the Sport Chrono Package. Finally, top speed is an entirely adequate 294 km/h.
Helping keep all this power down is the standard Porsche Active Suspensions Management with a lifting front axle for those mountainous speed humps. There’s also the high-performance braking system that includes 350-millimeter discs all around with 6-piston monobloc front calipers and 4-piston rear calipers.
Despite the advent of electrification in the Philippines, the 992.2 Carrera models will remain strictly internal-combustion. And although there is no official word yet on the arrival of the manual-only Carrera T, hybrid Carrera GTS, and the all-new GT3, expect all these to be available soon for Porsche enthusiasts to enjoy and adore.
