Geely is biggest mover in January 2026 sales – PADA

Press Release

Vehicle sales in the country reached a new record high in 2025, with a total of 491,395 units sold. It was up 3.7 percent from 473,842 units recorded in 2024.

For 2026, recent Philippine Automotive Dealers Association (PADA) sales for January have been released and numbers show a positive outlook to start the year.

Leading the sales for both passenger cars and commercial vehicles in total for the month of January is Toyota Motor Philippines with 16,346 units, followed by Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation with 7,080 units and Suzuki Philippines with 1,646 units. Nissan Philippines (1,589 units) and Ford Philippines (1,272 units) come in fourth and fifth, respectively.

For market share, PADA reports TMP with 48.13-percent, while MMPC with 20.84 percent. They are followed by Suzuki (4.85 percent), Nissan (4.58 percent) and Ford (3.75 percent).

Newly-minted Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. president, Jose Maria Atienza attributed last year’s achievement to the aggressive promotional campaigns and the new product introductions from the various car brands which expanded consumer options especially in electrified and commercial vehicle segments.

These are perhaps the biggest players in the local industry. However, in terms of growth compared to the same period last year, Geely edges these giant automakers and rest of contenders in the lot. The Chinese automaker posted a growth of 274.51 percent—the biggest increase for the month of January.

Geely churned out January sales with decent numbers of 191 units, led by the Geely Coolray. These may seem insignificant numbers compared to the auto giants that we usually know of. But this shows the efforts of a carmaker that was once in the throes of defeat. It shows promise, fortitude and spirit unwilling to give in.

A brand rising from ashes

Geely Motor Philippines Corp. (GMP), the newly-formed subsidiary of Geely Automotive International Corporation (GAIC), began its relaunching in February, 2025.

For the uninitiated, it was quite challenging for the Chinese brand in recent years as it had to navigate through issues regarding its customer and aftersales services, negatively impacting sales and patronage of its products.

The brand relaunch last year signified its commitment to the Philippine market, pledging to again gain back the trust it once had through better overall services and products.

Now, several months have passed and the company has been consistently working, tooth and nail, to better things, a testament to the commitment it has pledged since its relaunch early this year.

These numbers show proof of a brand fighting.

It’s one example of how automakers are generally fairing at the start of the year.

The recent PADA numbers show a positive outlook for the rest of the players as we again strive to reach the 500,000-unit mark which we fell short of reaching the past year.

The numbers show a rather bullish outlook for the next 11 months of the year.
