Is GAC Motor Philippines on-course for a record-breaking 2025?

If there’s one car brand that has proven that it’s never too late for anything, it’s GAC Motor Philippines.
Although it first started operations in November 2018 (with no less than a former president turned international detainee present at the inauguration), the Chinese automaker lagged behind rivals like BYD, MG and Geely. This all changed when international mobility provider Astara took over in 2023.
Under new management and the guidance of local industry veterans, the brand has exploded in popularity. Indeed, GAC Motor Philippines sold 3,207 units last year, a 65-percent leap from its first year under Astara Philippines.
And following its 2025 Dealer Conference earlier this month, the company seems set to reach greater heights this year.
“At Astara, we believe that mobility is about empowering businesses, enhancing customer experiences, and building a future where innovation and profitability go hand in hand,” said Astara Philippines country manager Luis Torres in a speech.
“Our journey is one of transformation, and together, we are driving forward towards growth and sustainability,” he added.
Growing dealer network
GAC Motor Philippines said in a press statement that it is accelerating its nationwide expansion by opening new dealerships in 2025.
This month, the carmaker formally signed agreements with six new dealer groups – FAS Motors Inc. in Matina, Davao City; Topcars Autoworld in Tacloban; Bermaz Auto Asia Inc. in Batangas; AVB in Lipa, Batangas; Motorcentrum in Pangasinan; and Peek Motortek Sales Corp. in Nueva Ecija.

“It is truly inspiring to witness the rapid evolution of GAC Motor Philippines under Astara leadership,” said GAC International general manager for Asia region Sam Chu in a speech at the Dealer Conference.
“In just two years, the brand has not only grown in sales and network but has also earned global recognitions solidifying its place as a key player in the automotive industry,” he added. “Let us continue to challenge the market, set new benchmarks, and redefine what is possible together.”
MIAS 2025 launches
GAC Motor Philippines also announced that it will debut new models at the 2025 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS), which will be held on April 10 to 13 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.
As of press time, the automaker sells the Empow sedan, GS3 Emzoom subcompact crossover, Emkoo compact crossover, GS8 three-row crossover, M6 Pro compact multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) and M8 full-size luxury MPV.
Although GAC Motor Philippines has remained mum on what it plans to unveil this year, it is expected that it will expand its range of electrified vehicles beyond the P1,698,000 Emkoo Hybrid, which we found very stylish and nice to drive when Inquirer Mobility tested the crossover last year.
In other markets, GAC Motor offers hybrid versions of the Empow, GS8 and M8, along with the Aion and Hyptec battery-electric-vehicle brands. And given the popularity of high-performance vehicles like the Honda Civic Type R and the Hyundai Elantra N in the Philippines, the 261-horsepower Empow R 400T could make its way to our shores soon.
In addition, GAC Motor Philippines said it would continue its partnership with renowned actor Dingdong Dantes, who became brand ambassador in 2023.
“GAC Motor is redefining the driving experience with its premium quality and outstanding performance,” the proud GS3 Emzoom owner said in a speech at the Dealer Conference.
“I am proud to represent a brand that values excellence and continuously strives to bring world-class vehicles to Filipino consumers,” Dantes added.
Given GAC Motor Philippines’ sturdy growth, selling 5,000 units this year doesn’t seem far-fetched.
