Lexus Sport Concept turns heads at Monterey
Serene, sleek, and sumptuous rides are synonymous with Lexus, but once in while, Lexus also dares to release audacious, breathtaking vehicles. The latest car to roll out on the world stage is the Lexus Sport Concept. The car turned heads at The Quail, A Motorsport Gathering at The Quail Lodge and Golf Club in Carmel, California. A wide, low-profile coupe, the Sport Concept is a vision of Lexus’ next-generation sports car. Muscular front fenders curve down into a low hood, which no doubt promotes better visibility and a sense of spaciousness.
The Lexus Sport Concept successfully blends sinuous curves along the car’s main lines with sharp, angular character lines within. Numerous interesting details such as the car’s grille section, aerodynamic flourishes, air scoops, and integrated rear spoiler, keep the eye constantly engaged.
Signature details that instantly identify the car as a Lexus are integrated into the Sport Concept. Up front, the spindle grille has evolved into an air intake more sleekly integrated into the fascia, while grille-like detailing extends the visual cues all the way to the outboard air intakes. The L-shaped daytime running lights act as neat exclamation points. The rear pillar forms an L, similar to the shapes in the LC 500 and legendary LF-A.
Other details include a variation of the Rear-L signature lamp. This is a single light bar that acts as taillight and brake light, with an illuminated Lexus logo. The shark-fin antenna is also brightly lit in red. Even the side-view “mirrors” (actually cameras) are straight out of a sci-fi spacecraft, curving smoothly from the doors.
The new Lexus design language is dubbed Provocative Simplicity. This was seen in the next-generation EV concept, the LF-ZC. The LF-ZC aimed to be both minimalist and bold in presentation. The Sport Concept follows in the tire tracks of exceptional performance models such as the RC F, IS 500, and LC 500.
The Quail, a Motorsports Gathering is an event held on the rolling greens of the Quail Lodge & Golf Club in Carmel, California. The Quail is a highlight of the annual Monterey Car Week.
