Limited Mazda MX-5 35th Edition grabs spotlight at Sports Car For a Cause

Avatar

Over 200 sports cars flaunted their swag at the 6th Sports Car for a Cause (SCFC) in Bonifacio Global City (BGC), Taguig last Sunday, February 23. But taking center stage among the finest sheets of metal and demigods of machines was none other than the Mazda MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition. This makes it its Asian debut outside of Japan, having been first shown at the Mazda Fan Festa in Fuji Speedway last November, 2024.

The roadster was built to perfection to celebrate 35 years since its 1989 debut at the Chicago Auto Show.

Over at the show in BGC, thousands of spectators were able to awe and marvel at its splendor.

Mazda Philippines head honcho, Steven Tan, even wore his heart on his sleeve, having been delighted to be able to support the sports car show-cum-chartiy event.

“Mazda Philippines is one with the BGC Car Club and NEO in supporting this wonderful event,“ he shared.

“The strong sense of charity and compassion among the sports car community in Manila made it the perfect venue to show the MX-5 35thAnniversary Edition.”

According to him, like the people behind Sports Cars for a Cause, the MX-5 is a car that has enjoyed a strong, dedicated following that has made it the world’s best-selling sports car since its inception.

The Mazda MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition is one beauty to behold as it features upscale signature touches exclusive to this variant. For one, it dons an Artisan Red Premium Metallic paintwork, the marque’s fourth Takuminuri special color. The three-layer finish produces a deep, dark red hue that complements the tan soft top and bright silver 17-inch aluminum alloys. To cap if off, a serialized badge on the driver’s rear fender completes its exterior features.

Inside, the exterior’s class and elegance are further spilled over. The awe-inspiring hue outside may have inspired its door upper door panels and AC vents, but the stark contrast of peach flesh-colored Nappa leather seats instantly shifts the appearance inside the cabin, evoking deep emotions of wonder and delight. Complementing these are the various 35th anniversary logos embossed on the seats and floor mats.

Further enhancing one’s already heightened senses inside are its 8.8-inch infotainment screen powered by the latest-generation Mazda Connect with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual USB Type-C ports, automatic climate control, rain-sensing wipers, and a nine-speaker Bose sound system.

At the heart of this stallion is a 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G engine, paired with a six-speed manual tranny, delivering 181hp at 7,000 rpm and 205 N-m at 4,000 rpm.

Highlighting its performance are its two new circuit-developed technologies: DSC-Track mode and asymmetric limited slip differential. This is on top of sport-tuned Bilstein dampers.

The DSC-Track mode increases the threshold of the DSC system, allowing better driver control without completely disabling electronic aids. In short, it balances spirited driving and safety. While the LSD improves stability, especially while turning.

This special commemorative edition, priced at P2,490,000, is limited to just 15 units in the country.

“This special edition is 35 years in the making. The 2025 MX-5 is the most capable version of our roadster yet, and we are thankful to the more than 1,500 MX-5 customers in the country who have become part not just of the MX-5 community in the Philippines, but also as part of the global community,” Tan then said during the sports car show event.

“We are delighted to share this milestone with each and every one of you.”

Following its SCFC participation, the Mazda MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition is currently on display at the North Court of the Power Plant Mall in Rockwell, Makati from February 25 until March 2, 2025, Sunday.
