Mitsubishi Destinator Sneak Peek

Mitsubishi SUVs have enjoyed a strong market presence in the Philippines for decades. Starting with Pajero, Montero Sport, to Xpander Cross and Xforce—they’ve all been hit vehicles. Now, Mitsubishi is expanding its lineup further with an all-new nameplate, the Destinator

What is it: Mitsubishi’s new SUV, was launched in July at the Indonesia International Auto Show. Manufactured by Mitsubishi Motors Indonesia, the Destinator will be sold in ASEAN, South Asia, Latin America, Middle East, and Africa. The concept is “Confidence Booster for Energetic Families,” with a three-row, seven-seat layout.

Power: Powered by the 4B40 1.5L turbocharged gasoline engine, the Destinator makes 163 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque. The engine uses the Atkinson combustion cycle for better efficiency, and a water-cooled intercooler paired to a front-wheel drive CVT system.

Design: The front of the Destinator features Mitsibushi’s Dynamic Shield grille with a honeycomb pattern and front LED daytime running lights in conjunction with sculpted fenders, hood vents, and blacked out pillars. The rear of the Destinator features the Hexguard Horizon concept also seen on the Xforce.

The interior of the Destinator features a flat dashboard design with an available 12.3 inch infotainment screen.

Interior: The interior of the Destinator features a flat dashboard design with an available 12.3 inch infotainment screen, 64 color ambient lighting, dual-zone automatic climate control, a Yamaha premium sound system, a digital gauge cluster, and a panoramic sunroof. The entry level variants feature a 4.2 inch MID display and analogue dials within the instrumental cluster, and an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

The second and third-row seating of the Destinator feature seatback table trays, storage pockets, and more storage trays under the seats.

Safety: The Destinator comes standard with 6 SRS airbags and various driver assistance systems, with adaptive cruise control, automatic high beam, blind spot warning, a forward collision warning system, a car departure notification system, and a multi-around monitor, amongst others.

Connectivity: In Indonesia, Destinator features can be accessed via smartphone app. This includes access to features such as remote climate control, remote door unlock, car finder, stolen vehicle tracking, and automatic collision notification.

“The all-new Destinator is a seven-seater SUV designed to encourage families to embark on adventures in comfort,” said Takao Kato, president and chief executive officer, Mitsubishi Motors. “This marks the third global strategic model born in Indonesia, following the Xpander crossover MPV and the Xforce3 compact SUV, and it will be marketed globally with a focus on the ASEAN region.

In the Indonesian market, the Destinator is priced at the equivalent of P1.39 million to P1.78 million pesos. This makes it a very competitive product if Philippine pricing is unchanged.
