Next-Gen Toyota Tamaraw to highlight 2025 TGR PH Cup Final Leg

The Next-Generation Toyota Tamaraw is on a roll.

It first started with its grand comeback celebration starting late last year, spilling all the way to the early parts of 2025. Everywhere you look, you get to see this workhorse already plying our local metro roads by the hundreds. It’s definitely in high spirits as it eyes to reach about 20,000-unit sales by year-end.

Now, speaking about high spirits, the comeback wonder vehicle is headlining the upcoming third and last leg of the 2025 Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippine Cup season slated at the Clark International Speedway this August 8 to 9.

This time, it will make its debut in a Sprint Race Exhibition, a thrilling showdown of the Tamaraw one-make-race cars (OMR), which was previously introduced as the Tamaraw Racing Concept during Race Weekend 2 at Villar City last May.

To top this off, driving these famed workhorses will be former Vios Cup Super Sporting Class champions Allan Uy (2016), Daniel Miranda (2017), Estefano Rivera (2021) and John Dizon (2023), and previous Vios OMR Test Driver, Tyson Sy.

Moreover, the vehicle will also be showcased in an exhibition Drag Race to further test its capabilities as a racing vehicle.

“It’s going to be exciting seeing the Tamaraw racing on the race track other than the usual Toyota Vios car,” shared Toyota Motor Philippines president, Masando Hashimoto, who is likewise eagerly participating in the ongoing sprint races.

“It’s going to be a different kind of showdown,” he then added.

2025 finale

It’s the usual thrilling racing action as racers will go wheel-to-wheel in two Sprint Races over the weekend. After these, the 1.5-hour Endurance Race will then ensue, pushing each and every racer to their limits, thus making it one exhilarating showdown of speed, skill, grit and well-built cars.

So far, leading the standings in the Super Sporting Class is Russel Cabrera of Toyota Team Cebu – Standard Insurance, followed by Alain Gabriel Alzona of Toyota General Santos – Smart Communications Racing, and Michael Bryan Co of R Garage / Toyota Dagupan Group.

In the Sporting Class, Jesse Garcia of Obengers Racing – Toyota Balintawak is the strong frontrunner, followed by Russel Reyes of Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippines and Raymond Cudala of R Racing – MADkart trailing behind.

Meanwhile, Luis Moreno of Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippines – Novice Team, tops the Novice Class standings, with teammates Pablo Salapantan and TMP President Masando Hashimoto in second and third place, respectively.

“It’s the final race weekend of the year, so we want to end on a high with new activities such as the Tamaraw Sprint Race, and the return of the Endurance Race,” said TMP assistant vice president for marketing services Andy Ty.

Other exciting activities

Other than the exciting action on the race track, there will also be a Club Race, a five-lap circuit race for owners of the GR Yaris, GR Supra and GR 86.

On the other hand, outside the track, freebies and prizes will be up for grabs at the Sponsors’ Booths and Game Booths in the activity area.

There will also be Sim Racing Rigs for those who would like to test their skills on the virtual tracks, wherein the Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippines eSports GT Championship 2025 will also be held and participation is free.

Car displays of the Toyota GR and GR-S lineups, and various Toyota Car Club vehicles will likewise be there, as well as Original GR merchandise, including shirts, caps and umbrellas.

Also, local pop and alternative rock band Over October will be taking the stage to pump up the crowd with their hit songs.

“We invite everyone who got a taste of the thrill of motorsports last Race Weekend 2 to join us for Race Weekend 3, where we’ve packed even more exciting activities,” Ty then continued.
