Over 6,000 units: Stargazer, Stargazer X top Hyundai Philippines’ star-studded 2024 lineup

When you’re in the company of other stars, it can be difficult to make yourself known and loved.

From the Staria van to the IONIQ 5 N high-performance electric vehicle (EV), the Hyundai Motor Philippines Inc. (HMPH) lineup is as diverse as it is dazzling. But the Hyundai Stargazer and Stargazer X multi-purpose vehicles (MPV) emerged the true fan favorite in 2024, accounting for more than half of HMPH’ssales that year with a sensational 6,068 units.

We check out what makes this seven-seater such a hit with Filipinos.

Standout styling

HMPH’s small MPV is hard to miss, especially in a segment that is filled with rather bland models.

Incorporating design cues from the larger Staria, the Stargazer’s face incorporates a high-mounted, full-width LED daytime running light that emphasizes the vehicle’s sleek styling and prominent front grill. The lower bumper likewise incorporates the boomerang-style clusters for the turn signals and headlights.

The daytime running light also leads the eye to the Stargazer’s high beltline, which works with the character lines in the doors and the kink in the D-pillar to offer a fairly muscular stance. In the Stargazer X, tasteful matte-black plastic is added to the wheel arches and lower-door area to offer additional protection over rough roads.

Finally, large taillights connected by red trim not only emphasize the MPVs’ width, but also provide a distinctive look even from behind. Attractive 16-inch alloy wheels are standard in the Stargazer, while the Stargazer X gets two-tone, 17-inch alloy wheels.

Usable utility and ruggedness

Inside, the Stargazer features a clean and crisp design passed down from the premium IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6 EVs.

The gauge cluster and infotainment system are seamlessly integrated into one unit, allowing for clear visibility and easy access. The Stargazer GLS, GLS Premium and Stargazer X variants come standard with an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with 4.2-inch digital gauges.

The airy, seven-seat cabin also gets 60:40 split-folding, second-row seats and 50:50 split-folding, third-row seats with three-point seatbelts for all passengers for maximum safety. Upholstery is attractive fabric in the Stargazer GL, while soft leatherette is standard in the Stargazer GLS, GLS Premium and Stargazer X.

The Stargazer also features a generous 185 millimeters of ground clearance to handle challenging terrain. This is increased to 200 millimeters in the more rugged Stargazer X.

Competitive performance and safety

Both the Stargazer and the Stargazer X are powered by a 1.5-liter, twin-cam, 16-valve inline-4 gaosline engine producing 113 horsepower and 144 Newton-meters of torque.

This makes the Hyundai MPV among the most powerful vehicles in its class. Helping maximize the performance is the standard Intelligent Variable Transmission with Drive Mode Select (Eco, Normal, Smart and Sport) in the Stargazer GLS, GLS Premium and Stargazer X.

The Stargazer GLS Premium and the Stargazer X are likewise among the leading MPVs in terms of safety, incorporating the Hyundai Smartsense advanced driver-assist system. This includes convenient and life-saving features like Forward Collision Avoidance-Assist, Blind Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist and Lane Following Assist.

The Stargazer range includes the GL at P1,068,000, the GLS at P1,198,000, the GLS Premium 7-Seater at P1,288,000, the GLSPremium 6-Seater at P1,298,000 and the Stargazer X at P1,348,000. All Hyundai Stargazer and Stargazer X models come with a 5-year/200,000-kilometer warranty, whichever comes first.

With styling, features and pricing like this, it’s no wonder that these charming MPVs won over so many Filipino owners last year. And it will likely garner a larger following this 2025.
