Perfect 10

Ronald Rey M. delos Reyes

The 10th Philippine International Motor Show, slated at the World Trade Center in Pasay City, from June 4 to 7, is just around the corner.

The biennial motor show promises to be the biggest the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI) has ever put up with 17 big brands participating. They will be orchestrating about 150 vehicles to be displayed and test driven, not to mention 50 percent of these vehicles or about 75 models will be electrified.

“People are going to be looking for cars that are going to address their needs, especially for energy and fuel efficiency,” said CAMPI president Jing Atienza.

“We will have a lot of new cars. We will have a lot of electrified vehicles. This promises to be our best motor show yet,” he added.

With a theme: “Forward in Every Drive,” the 10th PIMS aspires to reflect the industry’s commitment to innovation, efficiency, and sustainable progress.

According to them, the show aims to bring together a wide range of mobility solutions, from internal combustion engines to electrified vehicles, “alongside innovations in safety, connectivity, and energy efficiency.”

It demonstrates how mobility continues to become more practical, relevant, and accessible for Filipinos.

Per Atienza, their aim is fostering a vibrant and competitive auto industry. One that is always moving ahead as a primary mobility provider to the Filipino motorists, and constantly evolving with appropriate technologies and solutions to address the changing customer need.

Big brands, such as Toyota, Mitsubishi, Isuzu, Nissan, Honda, Suzuki, MG, Kia, Chery, Foton, Jetour and Geely are expected to flaunt their usual unadulterated flair. With new members: BAIC, Omoda & Jaecoo, Subaru, Tesla, and Vinfast debuting their dynamic lineup of vehicles and making their first appearances at the near-two-decade biennial show that began its journey in 2007.

30 years of passion and service

The late-1990s saw the havoc of the Asian Financial Crisis, triggering severe currency devaluation and tightened credit. It crippled local assembly, thus forcing a shift in market preference toward more affordable commercial and utility vehicles.

Despite this, the period also witnessed the peak of car sales (at that time) of up to 160,000 units.

Thus, CAMPI’s inception in 1995 was marked by both the financial crisis and the boom in car sales.

As for PIMS, the inception of an industry-led motor show, helmed by then CAMPI president, Elizabeth Lee, sprouted in 2006. It was not about a year after in August of 2007 that PIMS first opened its doors, which was ever since handled by long-time organizer, Sophie de los Santos.

CAMPI turns 31 this 2026 and has thus, so far, managed over 28 member companies and represents roughly P120 billion in total industry investments.

This longevity builds institutional trust and reinforces its reputation as a formidable pillar within the industry.

With longevity comes experience, and most importantly, the willingness to evolve through the changing of times. Hence, the show will feature vehicle technologies and programs that support fuel efficiency, electrification, and responsible energy use, reflecting the industry’s response to evolving mobility and energy challenges.
