Power of pink

Pink is my favorite color. Not a lot of people know about this because my closet is dominated by black clothes. My parents, who are both lawyers, started their law practice in an era when lawyers were not allowed to wear bright colors in court, otherwise they could be cited in contempt. Learning from my parents, I only dressed in black and other dark colors. My practical color choices eventually spilled into other things I owned like bags, shoes, and other accessories.
Times have changed and lawyers can now wear colorful suits in the court room. I have started to express my personal love for pink in the things I use in the office (for instance, my laptop is a light shade of pink). I also wear varying shades of pink suits when I host my morning program At The Forefront on Bilyonaryo News Channel, even while discussing serious political issues. There’s something empowering about expressing femininity through pink, while taking on significant roles in society.
Somehow BYD managed to mold together a symbol of self-expression, empowerment, and purpose in its Pink Seagull.

BYD launched a Seagull this July in a limited-edition “pink” color. But it’s not a pink “bubblegum” or “Barbie” cliché, but a refined seashell pink—modern, feminine, and assertive without being loud. As a woman working in a generally male-dominated legal field, I’m often navigating spaces where strength is expected to look a certain way (such as the dark or bland colors of the old-school legal era). But the Pink Seagull challenges that notion. It proves you can be stylish, soft, and still make a bold statement.
This car isn’t just about aesthetics. It’s a declaration that confidence doesn’t need to come in black, gray, or gunmetal. Sometimes, it comes in pink, like a BYD Seagull with 15-inch alloy wheels and LED headlights.
What initially drew me to the BYD Pink Seagull was how effortlessly it blends functionality with flair. With a busy schedule that has me jumping between client meetings, hearings, and hosting a TV program, I need a car that’s reliable and cost-efficient. The Seagull, as BYD’s most accessible EV, ticks all the boxes.
It boasts impressive ride comfort, modern tech, and zero-emissions—all in a compact frame perfect for the narrow streets of Metro Manila. Its electric powertrain means I no longer dread the weekly gas station visits or rising fuel prices. And let’s not forget the small luxuries: a smooth drive, intuitive infotainment, and the quiet hum of electric mobility that makes my daily grind just a little more graceful.
But perhaps the most compelling reason I chose the Pink Seagull isn’t what’s under the hood—it’s what it stands for.

BYD Cars Philippines has partnered with Healthway Cancer Care Hospital (HCCH) for a meaningful initiative: for every Pink Seagull sold, a donation is made to HCCH’s Cancer Care Hero Fund. My mom lost her law school best friend (my brother’s godmother) to breast cancer. I was already sold on the Pink Seagull as a car; but knowing it supports women’s health and an anti-cancer advocacy made it a no-brainer.
Along with the car comes a thoughtful set of freebies—discount vouchers for women’s health and wellness, a chic pink golf umbrella (essential for surprise downpours especially since the rainy season has begun), and cute car stickers that proudly say, “I drive with purpose.” And all of these come at a very affordable price, typical of BYD vehicles.
As a lawyer, I’ve spent years advocating for my clients and their causes. Driving the Pink Seagull reminds me to advocate for myself and other women too. To choose things that spark joy, reflect my values, and literally add color (in no less than my favorite pink!) to my everyday life.
The BYD Pink Seagull is cute, and yes, it turns heads. As a female lawyer, it also makes me feel like my own version of an empowered Elle Woods in Legally Blonde. But more than that, it’s the car of a generation that cares—about the environment, about causes, and about driving forward with intention.
