Rolex sets sail with 2024 yachting events
Among the many sports that iconic watch brand Rolex participates in, yachting is one of the most far-reaching partnerships. Rolex has partnered with some of the most storied events in the yachting world. Rolex’s 2024 yachting calendar continues that tradition, with some of the most prestigious races and regattas, as well as yacht clubs and important individuals. Rolex shares the sailing community’s fearless commitment to demanding offshore races and grand prix competitions, where only the best teams and sportsmen triumph.The calendar sets sail with one of the most coveted grand prix titles in world sailing, the annual Rolex TP52 World Championship. This will be held in July in Newport, Rhode Island, hosted by the New York Yacht Club. Rolex’s partnership with yachting began with this club in 1958. The race will see an international fleet of a dozen 52-foot TP52 monohull yachts, competing over a week of inshore racing.
In September, the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup and Rolex Swan Cup will be held in Sardinia. The Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (YCCS) will host a week of inshore events. Rolex has been associated with the YCCS since the early 1980s. These races will see an impressive fleet racing against the stunning backdrop of the area’s emerald waters punctuated by potentially dangerous rocky outcrops. Close proximity to nature and wildlife is one of the defining features of this intense competition. The Rolex Swan Cup, meanwhile, celebrates the 40th anniversary of a tripartite partnership in sailing, among Rolex, luxury yacht builder Nautor Swan and the YCCS.
Two classic offshore distance races round out the 2024 calendar. These are the formidable Rolex Middle Sea Race, which starts and ends in Malta in October, and the iconic Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, starting on December 26 and ending on the 31st. Running for 600 nautical miles, the races attract fleets of more than 100 highly-motivated crews. They will practice their skills and test their determination during the races that stretch for several days at sea.
Rolex and yachting have been taking to the seas for almost 70 years, as the Crown has supported influential yacht clubs, sailors, races, and regattas. The superlative levels of technical competence and passion for performance are shared by Rolex and these sporting participants. Sail on!
