The All-New Volvo ES90: Where Serenity Meets Scandinavian Electric Elegance
In spite of crossovers and multi-purpose vehicles exploding in popularity in the last decade or so, the traditional four-door has maintained an undeniable presence, particularly in the luxury segment.
Volvo Philippines is seeking to capitalize on this image by launching the all-new ES90 battery-electric vehicle (EV) on Thursday. Maria Fe Perez-Agudo, Vice Chairman, President and CEO of the Swedish automaker’s local distributor Hariphil Asia Resources Inc., said this sleek cruiser is one of the brand’s next-generation flagship models as it enters a new era of electrification.
“The Volvo ES90 is a testament to our commitment to moving forward with progress shaped by purpose, and power guided by responsibility,” the veteran auto executive said in a press statement.
“As the smartest Volvo ever designed, it is a choice for discerning individuals who share our values: that safety is a responsibility we all share,” she added.

Luxury liftback
Despite its sedan-like proportions, the ES90 actually offers greater versatility as a liftback.
The sharply cut-off rear end is arguably the model’s most striking angle, with its C-shaped LED taillights and pert bumper emphasizing a clean aesthetic that is unmistakably Volvo. Meanwhile, the LED light array flanking the rear windscreen not only makes the back more distinctive, but also improves visibility for drivers behind the ES90.
Volvo Philippines said its sweeping profile and flat under chassis result in a 0.25 drag coefficient that enhances energy efficiency at higher speeds. Flush door handles on the soft-closing doors also improve aerodynamics, while giving this big four-door a more coupe-like silhouette.
Finally, Volvo’s Front Shield replaces the traditional grill, but the large LED headlights retain the brand’s trademark “Thor’s Hammer” design. The ES90 likewise integrates seven cameras, 12 ultrasonic sensors and five radars for its active-safety suite, while the automatic spoiler shutter in the lower half of the fascia helps cool the high-voltage battery.

Crisp and airy cabin
Inside, the ES90 features a spacious, executive-grade interior lined in light-colored Nordico vegan leather – this is complemented by the open-pore wood accents and genuine metal trim that add a sense of warmth and coolness that piano-black trim simply cannot provide.
Natural light is let in by the panoramic electrochromic roof, while the four-zone climate-control system provides total comfort and ventilation for all occupants. Front passengers enjoy electrically adjustable and air-conditioned seats with massage function, with rear passengers being treated to power-reclining, air-conditioned seats with a luxury center armrest with storage and cupholders.
Volvo Philippines said the ES90 has a 3,102-millimeter wheelbase for executive-style space, while its maximum interior noise level of just 70 decibels creates a more relaxing environment for work or rest. This serene space also makes the best out of the standard Bose surround-sound system, which can be upgraded to a crystal-clear Bowers & Wilkins system.

Silent and safe
The Volvo ES90 is the first Volvo four-door to feature 800-volt EV architecture, which the automaker calls a significant milestone in its electrification journey.
The system integrates enhanced thermal efficiency for over 650 kilometers of range on a full charge, while DC fast-charging allows you to go from 10 to 80 percent in as low as 22 minutes. The ES90’s rear electric motor is mated to a 92-kWh battery for a combined output of 333 horsepower and 480 Newton-meters of torque.
This luxury EV likewise gets active air suspension that can be raised or lowered for easier access or increased ground clearance. It can also be adjusted through the vehicle’s various modes to let you choose between utmost comfort and precise handling.
And as expected of a Volvo, the ES90 comes with the Next-Generation Pilot Assist advanced driver-assistance system that include life-saving features like Lane Keeping, Adaptive Cruise Control and Navigation Support. The 2026 Volvo ES90 is only available, as of press time, in the top-of-the-line Ultra variant at P5,265,000.
Given that a sizeable number of ES90s have already been reserved, it appears that Volvo Philippines’ gamble in a luxury four-door EV could well be worth it.
