Toyota bZ4X Sneak Peek
Toyota’s first globally-available battery electric vehicle (BEV), the bZ4X, has been launched in the Philippines. With a range of up to 559km, the bZ4X promises zero local-emissions driving coupled with convenience and safety features.
What is it: Announced officially for the Philippine market last November 7, the bZ4X marks Toyota’s first major foray into the global electric vehicle market. It’s a compact SUV by a powered by a 190 Ahr lithium ion battery.
Power: Comparable to a RAV4 in size and dimensions (4,690 x 1860 x 1650 mm), the compact SUV is powered by dual electric motors that produce 338 horsepower and 338Nm of torque. Its wheelbase is measured at 2850 mm, with a ground clearance of 200mm and a seating capacity of 5. Toyota states a cruising range of 559 km.
Design: According to Toyota, the bZ4X has “the looks to match city streets but SUV strength to handle the great outdoors.” This is reflected in its sharp body lines and design elements that match other Toyota vehicles such as the Camry.
Interior: The interior of the bZ4X includes 8-way power perforated ventilated leather seats, a digital rearview mirror, an 8 speaker sound system, and a panoramic moonroof, amongst others. A 7-inch digital gauge cluster and a 14-inch touchscreen are also present. The second row includes seat heating and 2 USB-C charging ports for rear passenger convenience.
Chassis: The bZ4X features two drive modes: Eco for maximum efficiency and X-Mode for added traction on light offroading. The double wishbone rear suspension and an all-wheel drive system make it especially ideal for city driving.
Safety: The bZ4X comes standard with multiple key safety features, including a blind spot monitor, brake-assisted vehicle stability control, a panoramic view monitor, automatic high beams, and a pre-collision system, amongst others. It also features a specialized body structure that is reportedly capable of responding to collisions “from all directions”, and a battery pack that ensures “protection performance” should an accident occur.
Connectivity: The bZ4X also comes standard with Bluetooth, AM/FM, voice command, and wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto.
Other features include a power tailgate with a kick sensor, dual wireless chargers, and keyless entry.
