WHAT TO EXPECT AT PIMS 2024
The Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines (CAMPI) is all set to unfurl what it promises to be the most exciting Philippine International Motor Show yet this week.
The ninth edition of the PIMS will be its largest in history with 17 brands participating at its World Trade Center home from October 24 to 27 with an impressive lineup of new models and concept vehicles from major automotive brands.
CAMPI president Atty. Rommel Gutierrez said: “The industry has shifted immensely in the last two years, so through this motor show, we will dare to drive in bringing the best and most exciting PIMS, yet.”
Here’s what we can expect from the brands although there may be some big surprises when the curtains are raised for the show.
Changan is expected to unveil the Hunter REEV Pickup, touted as the world’s first range-extended electric vehicle. This innovative truck offers extended electric range with minimal emissions, combining power and sustainability. It is also Changan Auto’s first electrified pickup, with a body-on-frame chassis with double front wishbone and multi-link rear suspension, functional roof rails and bed rails. It has a 2.5-ton towing capability, and comes with a luxurious cabin with power seats and a 12.3-inch LCD central screen, among many other features.
Aside from this, it will introduce the Uni T Midnight Edition in very limited numbers. Only a total of 10 units will be allocated and this sleek, stylish and limited-edition compact SUV is paired with high-tech features that appeal to modern drivers. Changan will also have a PIMS-exclusive CS35 Plus Special Anniversary Sale. Its popular CS35 Plus, known for its dynamic performance and smart features, will be offered at a special anniversary price with discounts of up to P400,000, making it one of the most attractive deals at the show.
Chery Auto Philippines will unveil the new Chery Tiggo 2 subcompact crossover that comes with a refreshed design and new technology, making it a great option for first-time car buyers and city dwellers looking for an affordable and stylish ride. Aside from this, it will have a sneak preview of the new Tiggo 5x Pro as well. A full lineup of the new Tiggo 2 Pro, Tiggo 5x Pro Hybrid, Tiggo 7 Pro Hybrid, and the 7-seater SUV – Tiggo 8 Pro Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) will be available for test drives to the visitors on the 4-day weekend event.
Foton’s popular Traveller van will now come with a fully electric Traveller version. This marks as the brand’s first EV van that is designed for eco-conscious businesses and organizations, as well as individuals. Its zero-emission performance combined with spacious and flexible seating and cargo capacity makes it a sustainable choice for group transportation. It will also unveil a utility vehicle perfect for the needs of entrepreneurs.
Honda fans are set to finally see the new Civic e:HEV in the metal at the PIMS. Honda’s latest iteration of the Civic will come in a hybrid version and is expected to showcase cutting-edge technology and refined styling, ensuring it continues to be a favorite in the compact sedan market. Alongside the Civic, Honda is expected to reveal two other new models that are expected to be unveiled at the show which is still under wraps as of this writing.
Isuzu Philippines will showcase two versions of the D-Max 4×4, its standard variant model equipped with new differential lock system and Rough Terrain Mode, and a beefier customized D-Max 4×4 version complete with TJM steel bumpers and other overlanding accessories and equipment, as well as beefier Method Wheels and Nitto Grappler off-road tires. Aside from this, Isuzu will showcase its mu-X Executive Edition, that comes with red and black leather interior and VIP custom second row seats with power recline, leg rests and massage functions. It will also be fitted with large 20-inch Black Rhino wheels and Nitto S City Tires. At the Isuzu booth, it also will showcase the new Isuzu N-Series EV Concept Truck, a light-duty electric truck equipped with a powerful HP11 full electric motor and it will also will showcase the Isuzu Traviz Concept Cargo Van, an ideal solution for logistics and last-mile delivery businesses.
PIMS newcomer Jetour will have a new variant for its highly popular T2. With Jetour expanding its T2 lineup, it promises more options in terms of features, powertrains, and trims. Jetour is also hinting a surprise appearance of another model, as well.
Kia will unveil its EV9 GT Line which is the 2024 World Car of the Year as well as the 2024 World Electric Vehicle. It is a bold and futuristic all-electric all-wheel-drive SUV designed to deliver both power and style with sustainability in mind. As part of KIA’s growing electric vehicle lineup, it features a spacious, three-row cabin, making it ideal for families or adventurers seeking both comfort and performance. The GT Line trim adds sporty touches, including aggressive exterior design elements and premium interior finishes. Equipped with a high-capacity battery, the EV9 GT Line offers impressive range, fast charging capabilities, and advanced tech features, making it a standout choice for those embracing a luxurious, eco-friendly driving experience.
MG is expected to unveil its all-new HS Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) SUV underline MG’s commitment to exceptional value by delivering an extensive array of new features, increased performance and cabin space. The PHEV powertrain, which pairs a 105kW (142ps) 1.5-litre petrol engine with a 154kW electric motor, offers impressive acceleration with 0-62mph achieved in just 6.8 seconds. The HS PHEV SUV had its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed as the brand celebrated its 100th anniversary.
Mitsubishi will tease an SUV Concept. For the first time in Mitsubishi Motors Philippines’ 60-year history, it will be hosting the brands’ first world event in the country at the PIMS. Mitsubishi’s concept seven-seater sport-utility vehicle (SUV) will have a world premiere at the PIMS. World debuts usually take place in countries like Thailand if it is held in the ASEAN region but “the decision to have the world premiere in the Philippines is a testament to the country’s growing importance within Mitsubishi Motors’ global operations,” said MMPC president and CEO Ritsu Imaeda in the statement. It is exciting to note that “This new concept reflects Mitsubishi Motors’ vision of delivering top quality vehicles to the ASEAN region, and we are thrilled that this will be showcased for the first time in the Philippines,” he added. This world premiere carries the theme: “The Future of Family Adventures” and the speculation is it is the SUV concept pointing to a next-generation Montero. This concept vehicle complements its full line up Triton, XForce, Montero Sport and Xpander Cross models to be on display.
Suzuki will unveil a Special Edition Jimny. This ever-popular SUV will get a fresh look as a special edition variant, offering exclusive colors, trims, and features that make it even more appealing to off-road enthusiasts. But Suzuki added that an Electric Vehicle Concept will also be present at the PIMS, signaling the brand’s future direction towards electrification and sustainable mobility solutions.
Market leader Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) never fails to disappoint every PIMS show. This year, it is set to exhibit groundbreaking innovations to demonstrate Toyota’s global Beyond Zero campaign. Toyota says that this means showcasing a range of groundbreaking solutions that underscore Toyota’s commitment to carbon neutrality.
Falling under its Beyond Zero movement, TMP’s electrification, diversification, and intelligence innovations are designed to ensure that future generations can enjoy and inherit a beautiful planet. So, visitors will be treated to a plethora of vehicles and mobility solutions that exemplify Toyota’s ongoing efforts in electrification and decarbonization. Toyota is expected to have a concept car making its debut in Southeast Asia, a modern future sustainable concept inspired by motorsports, along with Toyota’s new lineup of electrified vehicles. In addition, Toyota Mobility Solutions Philippines will feature their latest products and services, such as Toyota RentaCar and Fleet360, showcasing the latest advancements in mobility solutions tailored to meet diverse customer needs.
