DAVAO CITY—Barely three weeks after he assumed office, Police Brig. Gen. Nicolas Deloso Torre III, director of the Police Regional Office in Davao (PRO-11), relieved the commanders of 19 police stations here and reassigned them to different areas in the Davao region.

The unprecedented major movement of top police officers in the city was not explained except that it was within the duty of the regional police director to reassign its officers.

Police Maj. Catherine dela Rey, spokesperson for the PRO-11, confirmed on Monday the relief of 19 station commanders and officers in charge here but stayed mum about the reason for the move.

“Nineteen commanders or officers in charge of the 19 police stations of the Davao City Police office have been relieved effective July 8,” Dela Rey told reporters in a statement, adding that they were replaced by officers from the police provincial offices and the regional headquarters of PRO-11.

Off to the provinces

Up until 7 p.m. on Monday, Dela Rey did not reveal the reason for the move except to say that it was “part of the duty of the regional director to assign or reassign officers.”

Those who were relieved were Police Capt. Rizalito Clapiz III, officer in charge of Santa Ana police station, now reassigned to the Davao del Norte provincial police office; Police Maj. Michael Uyanguren, station commander of San Pedro police station, now reassigned to the Davao del Sur provincial police office; Police Capt. Ronaldo Henson, officer in charge of the Talomo police, now moved to the Davao Oriental provincial police office; Police Maj.
