2 kids found dead inside parked car in Angeles City

MABALACAT CITY, PAMPANGA—Two children, ages 2 and 3 years old, were found dead after they were trapped inside a parked car in Malabanias village here on Friday.

The city police said on Saturday that nobody saw the children get into the car, which was parked unlocked near the residence of its owner. A review of a closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage in the area showed that the toddlers were playing outdoors on Friday morning when they decided to open the car’s door and went inside the vehicle.

“Based on the CCTV (footage) that we’ve seen, the kids entered the car at around 9:20 a.m. and did not come out until they were discovered inside at 1:50 p.m.,” Staff Sergeant JP Nash, investigator of police station 4 of Mabalacat City, told a local television station here on Friday evening.

Nash said the owner of the car, who works as a vehicle-hailing driver, reported the incident to the police after finding the children.

“The owner said he parked the car beside his house at 7 a.m. He thought he locked the doors before going to the house to sleep,” the police officer said.

Nash said at 1:50 p.m. the owner checked his car to prepare for his next work shift and discovered the bodies of the toddlers inside.

Suffocated

Nash said the parents of the two children had previously searched for the two children after they noticed they were missing.

They did not suspect that the kids were inside their neighbor’s car parked under the sun. The interior of the Toyota Vios car was not visible from the outside because of its tinted windshield and windows, Nash said.

The police officer said the toddlers, both males and were cousins, probably did not know how to open the car’s doors from the inside.

He said while the possible death of the toddlers was suffocation, their bodies will be subjected to an autopsy.

“The case is still being investigated whether or not someone should be held liable or responsible for the children’s death,” he said. INQ
