3 arrested for selling smuggled frozen fish

The National Bureau of Investigation said on Monday that it arrested three individuals in Batangas City on Feb. 6 for selling 100 boxes of smuggled frozen fish products.
In a statement, the NBI said its Batangas district office conducted an entrapment operation after receiving information that some people were transporting and selling smuggled frozen fish products in the province.
The suspects identified as Alexious Aguilar, Romel Estrada and Jeremie Villa were arrested after delivering the contraband to NBI operatives who paid them with marked money.
Seized from the trio were 100 boxes of assorted smuggled frozen fish products.
Aguilar, Estrada and Villa now face charges for violating Republic Act (RA) No. 10654, which amended RA 8550, also known as the Philippine Fisheries Code of 1998, and RA 12022, or the Anti-Agricultural Sabotage Act of 2024, before the Batangas City prosecutor’s office.
